Far as I remember, he was on the fourth line for Kootenay ... Daddy Dearest trades for him and, all of a sudden, he's on the second line. Amazing, eh?

I think what he meant by not making a splash with the Voracek pick was that it was the safe pick. They didn't go off the board and try to out-smart themselves. They were lucky Voracek fell to them and would have been stupid to pass on him. Making a splash would have been moving up in the draft or going off the board IMO. Still Voracek is going to be a solid player, I more than half expected the Oil to take him at 6 over Sam Gagner.

I was surprised by MacLean's open hatred for Zherdev. I knew he wasn't a fan, especially by the end, but he just could not get over it on the broadcast. Every chance he got he ripped the guy. Unbelieveable. I was not thrilled by the job MacLean did on the pannel. Overall I was a little let down by TSN's performance at the draft, I thought they had done a better job in past years in setting up possible picks for each team, going over their strengths and weaknesses, etc. Just not as in depth this time around.

Honest question...did you like Alexei Kovalev as a NYR? Many I know think that is a reasonable comparison for Cherepanov, as is Zherdev. Kids generally fall in the draft for a reason. The Russian transfer arrangement is a major reason, to be certain, but there were enough teams ahead of the Rags that would have taken a chance on him if he were a "superstar". He has "superstar" talent but will we ever see it on a consistent basis?

The same goes with Esposito to the Pens. Could be a gem of a pick....or not.

Do you know the reason Esposito fell so far? Attitude? Work ethic?

    Yes...Yes...

Wearing a "Git 'R Drunk" T-shirt around the official hotel on the day of the draft, with tonnes of NHL folk wandering about, may not have helped, either.

He didn't get that from you did he, my brother?

What am I saying, Esposito could never appreciate the wonders of Ghetto Blaster.

He certainly is a solid skater and he's good with the puck. Again, I think there might be a question - like Turris about the quality of competition, but if he played in a higher level, I think he might have even been in more demand.

Agreed. Some of his comments and those about his organization's views on players makes you think the Blue Jackets made the right choice letting him go. He was neither that entertaining or that insightful.

Fair comment, though I think they might have been just as taken by the nature of this draft as anyone. Everyone knew coming in this thing could turn into a real crapshoot early.

Brian Burke was much better in his stint on the pannel. I think they brought MacLean in too soon, he was obviously still bitter about being let go.
