The kid broke Bure's record for goals as a rookie in the RSL and he was charged with being "bored" or "disinterested." Hockey people have said he plays his best hockey against older players. I think he'll be fine.

One thing I did hear about that record – while Cherepanov got a regular shift, those who went before him (Bure, Ovechkin, Malkin) saw very limited ES time and time on the PP. So yes he broke the record, but he was playing on a top line with a former NHL all-star (name escapes me right now) while the others were seeing fourth line time.

Still rediculously talented. In my eyes it's an easier pick to understand busting, than say taking a pass and going off the board and having that guy bust (ahem, Alex Plante).

So you're saying he's got his junior coach's class?

Oh my god, really? an 18-year-old is attracted to low brow immature comedy? He's gotta be a bad seed. He should be tared and feathered.
Although maybe not the best attire to wear to what is essentially a job interview, do you remember some of the shit you thought was funny when you were 18? I've done my best to forget. If you're judging his hockey ability and desire to play the game solely on his lack of comedic taste, you really need to reconsider your evaluation system, and maybe question his handlers instead.

    Beef,
I think Fly was joking about the T-shirt. Well, at least I hope he was.

If that's the case I apologize for my irateness, it's early yet, or at least by my standards, and I'm a little sleep deprived.

Just read Bill Simmon's draft blog, and although he takes a pot shot at Edmonton, it is one of the funniest things I have read in a while, enjoy.

Christ, Beef. Relax. My comment was just that that's a stupid shirt to wear on that day.

I just don't understand teams passing on him. Russian teams have not won a court cases versus their former players and their NHL teams. Why pass on a kid who could be the face of your franchise for 15 years?

I'm in the same boat, I was pissed when the Oil passed on both him and Plante at 15.

Like most Simmons shit, he's funny in the first paragraph and then it's same old, same old.

    But this is funny:

" Tragically, I missed most of Bettman's speech before he announced the Blackhawks were on the clock. But here's how it probably went down:

"Ladies and gentleman, we're coming off another wonderful season highlighted by the most damaging TV contract in professional sports history and a finals between an obscure Canadian team and the 357th biggest market in the United States. And now, we're about to introduce a 5-foot-9 American kid who's built like Bailey from "Party of Five" as our first pick. I couldn't be happier -- 15 years ago, David Stern sent me to the NHL to ruin this league and I have delivered in spades. Thank you, thank you very much. Thank you, you're too kind. And now, the 2007 draft!"
