I was talking to a buddy today, and he said that his brother believes the Devils are rebuilding around youth; that the new Devils dynasty will be built around the new arena, Parise and Zajac.

As little as possible, if history has taught us anything.

So I've noticed. That's kind of why I put that on a tee and got away as you mashed that one 300 yards down the fairway.

Thing is, Bates can do some damage. He had a hat trick in one game in Raleigh, and IIRC, he once scored 90 seconds into a game with Philly, after which the Hurricanes out-Phillyed Philly in a way that had to drive Bobby Clarke up the wall. When Keith Primeau was slammed into the boards, it brought up a roar that was only duplicated during the runs to the Cup championship series in '02 and the Cup itself in '06.

After 2 1/2 days, Dallas, New Jersey, Ottawa and Phoenix are the only four teams without any player transactions (as in coming to their teams).

    Wrong. Devils just signed Zubrus.

Glad I'm wrong on the Devils. I just saw the story on it. Zubrus is a good start, but if they have the young guns slated to carry the torch, I hope they have some new defensemen in mind to help the vet Brodeur out a bit.

Well, this could get interesting ... maybe:

“On Sunday, July 1, 2007, Kevin Lowe, Oilers general manager, and Mr. Mike Gillis, certified agent for Michael Nylander, negotiated and agreed to a multiyear NHL Standard Players Contract, starting in 2007-08. Mr. Gillis confirmed same to the Oilers in writing,” the Oilers statement said.

I'm shocked that Souray hasn't been signed.

Bates is the kinda guy the Leafs need a few more of.

Didn't miss a game last year. I know it's a trite phrase but he really is a lunch bucket kinda guy. Goes out, plays his 12 or so minutes and gives it 110% on every shift. (Yeah, yeah, I know, 110%)

Too many fucking passengers on the Leafs. Bates ain't one of 'em.

A two-testicle tumour with Amonte then? Go Penguins.

Amonte has been a bad guy in Calgary?

Toronto tried to sign Ortmeyer, but when he went to Nashville -- they went back to Battaglia.

Souray may have to sign a one-year deal -- like Brad Stuart -- then try again next summer. Unless, of course, he wants to take big money and big term from the Islanders.
