Allan Muir's column on the Crosby signing, pretty much bashes it, saying he financially hamstrung the organization, even though it isn't a "Max Deal". saying he care more about the dollars than he does winning a championship.

First of all if Tampa can find a way to make it work under a lesser cap, so can the Pens under a $50 million cap. The drafting of Esposito also makes it possible to deal either Staal or Malkin for some defensive help and may clear some ego space. If Crosby hits the RFA market, he would have his pick of teams offering him max deals more than willing to give up the four oro five fiurst round picks, and dare I say it the possibility of the NHL's first ever 10-year $100 million offer? Believe me the Pens got him at a discount. the column is asinine.

    I agree with you, Beef.

This is a terrific deal for the Penguins. It's Sid who left a lot of money on the table.

So, he spends an entire column bashing the deal before slipping in ...

    Well, which is it, Allan?

And if you think that deal won't keep Malkin and Staal's asking price down, you're crazy. There's no way either of them go into negotiations asking for more than Crosby.

[pens fanboy]Only thing I don't like about the deal: it isn't for 15 years.[/pens fanboy]

I think Allan's arguing both sides. I read the article twice and can't exactly figure out what his point is .

    He's absolutely arguing both sides.

And, sorry Allan, but ANY deal Crosby agrees to for less than the max is a good deal. Will it hurt the Pens' chances to build a team full of superstars? Sure. And that's the way the CBA works, isn't it?

The truth: Crosby could have walked into Shero's office, written down what he wanted and Shero would have had no choice but to agree to it.

And could Muir honestly think Crosby would agree to something way below market value? The NHLPA and the players would have shit themselves.

Don't know what they're doing up your way, Beef, but down here, there's the league cap and then there's the cap that the owners have given Sutter.

I'm glad to see the NHL try to make a big splash newswise for the media during this brief lull in the baseball season. Crosby's deal is a good press item for the downtime and the NHL 2007-08 schedule is supposed to drop tomorrow, too. Any other big free agent news coming out today or anticipated on Wednesday or Thursday?

Well, the Souray signing will sort of be a big deal.

Devils signed defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski on Tuesday. I'd still like to see the Souray thing happen too.

FYI: Sidney Crosby was the top new story in all Nova Scotia media outlets yesterday and today. Sid did an interview with CTV while he was working out at the gym yesterday. What a gracious and accomdating guy!
