Does this mean Slats gets re-titled a genius?

Ol' Slats lost the "Genius" title after dismantling the '80s Oilers. I don't think there's anything he can do to earn back the title.

Had the Oilers stayed intact, how many Cups could they have won?

No more. The hockey world couldn't have handled it. And heads would have exploded in Calgary.

That's the same with the Oil, they are working under a rumoured budget of about 45 or 46 milion, but right now have only about 30 mil and change committed. they can't get anybody to take their money. I was refering to the Lightning making it work with their big three under the old salary cap or budget. If they need to the Pens have 50-milion to work with, depends on how much they want to commit to signing their big three. I have no idea what their budget is.

The NHL released the schedule and I'm happy to see that the All-Star game is back on the weekend. (Sunday, Jan. 27.)

Can they still afford both under the cap? They've paid out a ton of money already.

They have $7 million left in the coffers.

The flaw of the hard cap is that it allows teams to front-load contracts. Seemingly every player that signed a long-term contract will receive a ton of money upfront, but by the end of the deal, they will pull in four or five million.

The best example is Di Pietro's contract. Yeah, it's absurd, but he's only making four million a year.

The cap hit each year is the average amount per year of the contract. It doesn't matter how it is structured.
