BRENT SUTTER STEPPING DOWN AS COACH AND GM TO FILL POSITION IN THE SWAMP

Honestly it's about the last place I thought Sutter would go, especially the lack of security provided by being Jersey's head coach, especially after he turned down his dream job on Long Island last year.

Gotta say I'm a little shocked.

Lamoriello's been chasing Sutter for years.

Just about every GM in his right mind should have been. I still don't understand why now to make this move for Sutter.

An interesting story about how Sidney Crosby should spend his millions. I have the actual copy of the Chronicle Herald here and it shows the house he is currently renovating in Grand Lake (the smaller picture is online, but this story is on the front cover of the paper). The reporter in question, Josh Visser asked people for financial advice for Sid.

Sutter is a great teacher and the Devils have a lot of good, young players.

I concur. I do wonder if John MacLean stays on or follows through on his quest to be a head coach somewhere (else).

Also, being a California resident, seeing the Devils' regular-season schedule means if I want to see them out west, I'll have to go to Vancouver or Colorado. I do want to see a game in the new arena in Newark this season and I see the NHL is giving them plenty of extra time with a huge road trip to start the season so Bon Jovi can have first event honors. I guess either Bruce Springsteen wasn't available or the Devils owe Bon Jovi a favor since the band has always been on Letterman with the Devils after they win Stanley Cups.

Yea, I don't think it will happen either (thank God). But I just found it interesting that he would mention Detroit like that, like a deal is or almost is done.

I hadn't even heard any rumors about Yashin donning the Winged Wheel.

    My thoughts exactly.

And look at the players Sutter has helped develop in the last 10 years, Phaneuf especially.

As long as Lou doesn't undermine Sutter after 75 games this season, it would be a great hire.

    Souray signed with the Oil.

Lou is also a very savvy NHL exec.

I think the Sutter family wants a NHL Franchise at some point.

No details released yet, but I like the deal. Brings a PP QB and a physical presence to the backend as well as some veteran leadership. Always been a fan.
