Probably because of the impending deal between NHL and ESPN 2.

I was thinking that also. Have you noticed a difference in coverage level?

Yeah, I have and I was starting to wonder if I was just observing too much but it is probably part of the image thing and the deal where ESPN has to start to show that they legitimally care about the NHL and they are serious about showcasing it. Bettman's big scheme of trying to break through to the States. I have a feeling though that more Canadian NHL diehards will be looking at ESPN.com than American people.

Just in case this did not get posted already, CBC has come out with their broadcast schedule for the fall for HNIC:

Poor Elliotte, he can't go to England for the NHL game between the Ducks and Kings because of a CFL conflict on Sept 29th. CBC is showing three CFL games that day...wow I better check that schedule again. Anyway, given the choice, I would jump at the chance to go to England. That place is one of my favourites.

    Thurs Oct 4th Toronto/Ottawa and Philly/Cal games

Hockey Day in Canada is back on February 9th. All Star game is Jan 26th/27th. What's retarded is the fact that Toronto is not playing Colorado at all this season and I really hate how the NHL has done the schedules for the teams.

Sullivan is on skates but may not be ready for camp.

While Steve Sullivan continues to recover from back surgery, it appears he may not be ready for training camp next month.

According to the Pioneer Press, the Nashville Predators forward has begun skating in Vancouver after undergoing surgery last month to correct a disc problem that was pressuring a nerve.

"He's making good progress, but at the start of training camp, he might be a little bit questionable to go full bore," Predators head coach Barry Trotz told the Pioneer Press Wednesday. "When I say full bore, I mean scrimmages and (preseason) games, that kind of thing."

Trotz has been impressed with Sullivan's commitment to get healthy and make sure he is fully recovered before coming back.

The Great One defends Kevin Lowe ...

EDMONTON (CP) - Wayne Gretzky came to Edmonton the play golf at the CN Canadian Women's Open pro-am on Wednesday, but ended up talking hockey.

The current coach of the Phoenix Coyotes said he's not part of the chorus vilifying Oilers general manager Kevin Lowe for going after restricted free agents like Dustin Penner.

"He's not doing anything against the system or behind the backs of anyone, and good for him," said Gretzky.

On reports that Edmonton is now considered the Siberia of hockey for pro players, Gretzky said "it's a wonderful place to be an athlete.

See, I am kind of torn about this situation about restricted free agents. If it is allowed in the NHL and GM's can go after other team's players that are restricted agents, why not if you really want that player? Another way, I can see why GM's may be a little pissed off...they have meetings together, help each other out when they need it (I am thinking the Nashville/Hamilton situation and how the Leafs/Sabres may have needed help from other GM's to stop it from happening).

Anything that gets the GM's to be less buddy/buddy is probably good for the league.
