The players are probably OK with in given the reduced travel. But, from a fans' standpoint, it's awful. I want to see the other conference at least once a year, and I don't think it's too much for the league to do so.

The West wants to see Ovechkin and Sid. The East wants to see the quality throughout the West.

Sounds like Interleague baseball fans are on this thread.

Well said, the players are traveling on charters as well.

Thank Jacobs and Lamoriello. They don't want to shell out for the East-West matchups because "our fans don't care about the Western Conference" teams.

So the West wants to schedule two more games against Columbus, while the East just has to have that extra date or two against Atlanta. ::)

Like HB said, thanks. Thanks a lot.

Just reading this thread and I want to ask you all, do you think hockey playing is more fast paced in the West versus the East?

Yes. My best example. Sandis Ozolinsh.

He had a great run with the Ducks that culminated in Anaheim's first run to a Cup final. Went on the market ... Carolina and its skinflint owner, Peter Karmanos (Hi, BYH ... not a big fan of his, either) opened his wallet and handed this guy a contract worth $5M per.

Huge. Flop. Couldn't handle the East. West was more fast-paced - certainly in the clutch-and-grab era leading to the lockout - while the East was physical.

The Hurricanes shipped him to Florida for, among others, Bret Hedican. Didn't do worth a flip there, either.

Ozolinsh is a good offensive defenseman who can thrive in the West. His style didn't work in the East. That's not an implication that one is better than the other, but I feel it works for this argument, cansport.

the sid thing.. what a payoff that would be for the west teams.. the talent of the pens coming into town... sadly they get screwed.

I even think people would want to see a rematch of Ottawa/Anaheim and the Detroit/Colorado. Stupid, stupid move....

Yeah, Sid is supposed to be the face of the NHL and he isn't going to play West teams?

Without a doubt, and a lot more entertaining to boot. I certainly don't mind the odd scuffle, but I love coming home from work and finding a Vancouver or Edmonton game still on the satellite.

Yeah, I always found the Edmonton/Vancouver tilts quite fast paced, as with Colorado/Calgary and Colorado/Edmonton.
