It's a really interesting question, to me. On one hand, you can say that statistics over time even themselves out. No one's perfectly consistent, and good players have bad streaks and good streaks, and by game 162, the numbers add up. Chase Utley, for instance, had a 44-game stretch (mid April to beginning of June) where he went .323/.404/.701 with 18 homers. In the 44 games since then he's been dogshit, going .247/.321/.402 with four homers.
But on the other hand, when and how much does the human element come in? It almost would have to. Players make adjustments all the time. But it seems like it'd be a lot easier to pinpoint a statistical cutoff that separates the awesome streak from the dogshit one, than it would be to pinpoint when a player makes whatever adjustment. I don't know if there's always a certain point where something clicks and everything changes, for better or worse.

If this keeps up, people thought the Royals were crazy to give him that contract. For the time being, it's working out for Dayton Moore.

In his time with KC, his first two months of this season was his only really lousy stretch. If he had just a smidge of run support, he would've approached 15 wins last year.

    Very interesting analysis, Martin.

But the point is, Willie Randolph got fired after Game 69 and suddenly the Carlos Delgado of 2006 and before emerged.

Yeah, that's too obvious a fact to ignore in Delgado's complete turnaround.

I don't think he's going for funny. Then again, neither was A_QB when he started that particular running gag, so the reference works just fine.

Sometimes you come to the ballpark and simply see the ball differently.

Anyone, and I mean anyone, who has played baseball understands that.

Jose Guillen denies asking out of Kansas City. He also denied the report that he isn't speaking to Trey Hillman, which was supposedly the reason why he wanted out.

    Ain't he fun?

Zeke, help ... whatever happened to Nelson Liriano? With the Twins getting close, he could be a big help. He was pitching well in the minors but then I lost track, and the Minneapolis paper hasn't mentioned him in awhile. Just seems curious.
