Of course, if they don't, and Chicago does, Jermaine Dye is going to have a case as well.

    7-6, Twins.

Cubs' radio guy Pat Hughes was even surprised. When Yost went out, he said "he'll undoubtedly get thrown out, too." He figured Yost would argue -- no reason why he shouldn't -- until getting tossed. Nope.

Fielder did it for him ...

For frame of reference, Gardy got himself tossed after a brutal call tonight. And the Twins rallied to take the lead.

Sometimes you gotta rally the troops.

Meanwhile, it looks like OOP might have been right:

Strib sez the Twins are strongly considering cutting Livan loose and eating his salary to make room for Liriano.

Not much to rally for down 10 runs, but agreed. At least show your players you care. It's Yost's job to protect Fielder from making things worse for himself after he was tossed.

I think Fielder's persistence in the dugout after getting run may earn him a suspension, or at least a fine. And it never should have come to that. Let your manager make your case for you; but Yost choked.

So, is Griffey gonna captivate Sox fans by shortly passing Sosa on the home run list? I'm guessing that'll be enough to make him a fan favorite.

Kinsler has slowed down a bit, too. Still, Hamilton's going to finish with some outstanding numbers.

I've never seen a man stroke his own adam's apple as much as Yost did during the postgame presser.

He couldn't keep his hands off it. Maybe he thought it was Alfonso Soriano, or something.

I do occasionally stumble into one. He has just been so bad since mid-May. His numbers look even worse when you consider that he was 6-2 with a 3.88 ERA after a decent start in Coors Field May 17. He has had maybe three good outings since, one in July.

At some point the level of suck overcomes the importance of experience.

Just like that, the NL Central taking the Wild Card is no longer a foregone conclusion, maybe not even probable.

Damn, it's August 1, boys and girls. It's gonna be fun.

Just saw this on the ESPN2 crawl ...

Red Sox players met with Theo Epstein Wednesday night and told Epstein Manny Ramirez had to go because they weren't sure they could count on him in the clutch. ESPN2 crawl credits the Providence Journal with the story.

If that's true, it is Theo and John Henry's job to tell the players, "Manny is a Hall of Fame hitter who has been a catalyst for two World Series rings. When you guys start to hit like he does in the clutch, we can talk. Go take some batting practice."

From what I read, the vote was allegedly 23 to 1 in favor of Manny going. The one who voted for him to stay? David Ortiz.
