If you would take that pitcher over the guy with 8 walks vs. 74 K, more power to you!

I did not say that. But he's way ahewad of Jurrjens and he does have a lower ERA and better W-L record than Nolasco.

Just one quick point and then I'll go back to sleep. LeeJ is correct about Omar Minaya and, if you check back on this thread for months, I've been saying that all year. He has done nothing to help the Mets' bullpen and, for that reason alone, I felt he was even more culpable for the team's demise than Willie Randolph. Yet for some reason, Omar remains off the criticism radar from the ballclub and the beat writers.

Spnited is also correct about the bullpen individuals, but why leave Pedro Feliciano out of the mix? His job is to get left-handed hitters out. Has he done much of that?

Casty, your wish (and mine) has been granted and Francisco Liriano goes against Cleveland today in the Dome.

    Oooh.

I like a couple of those. Will have to consider them.

The Mets are bringing up Eddie Kunz, the Double-A guy they think is their future closer, to help out in the pen. At least it's a sign that they realize they can't keep hoping that their current guys will get it done. I'd make him Wagner's set-up guy right now. He can't be any worse than than Heilman and Sanchez.

I agree that not overhauling the bullpen has been Omar's biggest failing. The one thing I'd say in his defense is that getting bullpen help is much easier said than done, partly because those 7th, 8th inning guys are so unpredictable from year to year, or even within a season. You have to get a little lucky. Remember when Carlos Marmol was all but unhittable? Cla Meredith? Scott Linebrink? Hell, Heilman and Feliciano were lights out for most of 2006. This year hardly any relievers moved at all at the deadline, so I don't know how much you can fault Minaya there.

Aren't you the guy who once got into an argument with almost everybody on the board because you insisted that ERA was by far the most important statistic to measure a pitcher by?

I remember agreeing with you to a point, though I don't think it is ever a good idea to look at just one statistic. ERA is the first one I look at every time.
