In the rain-delayed Cardinals-Dodgers game, Chris Carpenter threw 51 pitches, 33 for strikes, in five scoreless innings. And he could have went much deeper into the game. Nice second game back.

Cardinals are gonna need a lot of that to catch the Cubs (yeah, not likely) or win the NL wild card.

Five games for a pitcher is equal to one game for a position player.

And the Royals can work around it a bit too. Greinke can appeal it right now, take his turn in the rotation and then drop his appeal and sit out the next five games (which he'd be doing anyway).

You'd probably just have to bump the next guy up a day and then let Greinke pitch on an extra day rest.

They can do the same with Olivio, just at different times.
