Kaufmann is very nice. I especially enjoyed the new scoreboard when I went in May. It was weird, though. We actually had to sit in the upper deck.

I can't believe you didn't make a crack about it being a perfect place to host a minor league team.

It's like I don't even know who you are anymore.

And you have no margin for error when you ARE on it.

    You're like a right-handed Jamie Moyer.

Touche. I haven't lived there full time since 97, and at all since 01. The last sellout that wasn't a home-opener that I attended might have been Brett's final home game.

But if the reckoning comes, that town's going to go ape shit.

Sorry for causing the minor threadjack. I could cause another one by saying that Bobby Flay is currently on the Food Network trying to perfect a dish called "puffy tacos", but I won't.

Double X 1090 AM in San Diego and Los Angeles reported this morning that the Red Sox put in a claim for the Padres' Brian Giles. Giles wasn't in the starting lineup for this morning's Padres-Mets game. Anyone heard anything new?

I can't imagine the Red Sox wanting another former Pirates outfielder, especially a 37-year-old one, but I could see where maybe they blocked the Rays from making a trade for him.

It's been pretty quiet in August, but when a Padres player is involved, it starts making a lot of sense for a team that is having its worst season in recent memory to unload him if the chance arises. Giles is NOT a $9 million player and the Padres would love to send him out right now, only to bring him back next year at a reduced rate.

The other thing that was interesting is that Giles was supposed to do an interview with Double X this morning, but blew it off (perhaps because of the early game). Double X is the Padres' flagship radio station.

Meanwhile, the Mets offense today consists of 2 RBI single by Nick Evans and an RBI single by Dan Murphy!

And Johan... 1R, 2 H, 3BB, 7K, 99 pitches through 7. He might have to complete this to get the win.
