But it only counts for one since they only beat a AAA team.

Wilbon doesn't demonstrate a great knowledge of baseball. At least his ESPN persona doesn't.

Well, now they have the Jays.

    This time it counts!

They sing from the TV booth in the press box.

Do everyone a favor, and, for once, admit you're wrong.

I admit to not giving a shit about the whole debate in this context.

If they win tomorrow, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before.

As a journalist, you shouldn't take tickets/opportunities on your personal time that aren't available to everyone.

It's like the morons who tell me that it's OK getting Super Bowl tix through their NFL connection because they are paying face value.

    No. It's wrong.

Which is, of course, ludicrous. It's not like buying tickets from connections you get from a beat. At all.

They don't sell tickets to sit in the box and sing the stretch. So Wilbon doing so is not denying any fan any opportunity.

If you have a problem with it, you have a problem with it. But the reason you gave was ridiculous. You can man up and say so at any time.

He is ... exactly... using connections developed in journalism.

Zeke, I think you would feel better if you changed "Pallister" in your avatar to "Simon."

Was he offered the opportunity because of those connections ... or was he offered the opportunity because he's a celebrity Cubs fan?

It's the latter, of course. Many celebrity Cubs fans have come before him, many will follow him, none were put out because Wilbon did it tonight in particular. End of argument-which-is-not-quite-pointless-but-would-be-better-if-it-were-placed-on-this-other-board-instead.

Celebrity Cubs fan signing during the seventh-inning stretch? Check.

But the fact that he's an ESPN personality doing it during an ESPN broadcast seems like business as usual. It's like FOX having Jordin Sparks -- the previous year's American Idol winner -- sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl, which FOX broadcast. When it comes to performances at games, I'm always looking for the corporate ties, and quite often, I find one somewhere.

p.s. Some time ago, I said the Yankees were dead. I was reminded of the comment when the Yankees got hot not too long ago, and so with no one reminding me of that comment nowafter the Angels simply smacked them around, I will repeat it again -- the Yankees are dead. No postseason for you.
