No Idiots Allowed Fantasy League

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by 21, Mar 24, 2005.

  1. His trade offers should not be taken as insults, just his method. Does it work? Sometimes, but it has hurt him too. I've also traded players with him that I did think benefited both teams, but most trade offrers were just rejected. He may change his methods as well for the wise and keep them for the unsuspecting. Just consider the offers as a similar to a poker strategy rather than an insult. Its all fun.

I would hope that those feelings would not stop a move that would improve quality and competition top to bottom.

Dude, we're already competitive top to bottom.

Yeah, not a problem in our league.

  4. I am sure you are competitive now.  Just saying that this would improve competition top to bottom.  Several teams coasting the last few weeks or months, waiting for a guaranteed next year, not making any FA moves, etc., so giving some teams easier wins when they play the coasting team later in the season, would improve.  Your current managers would improve and you would also have new competitive managers.

You could easily tell Sterling to chill on the ridiculous offers or you could ignore them.  He can't have more than five pending at one time.  So you could ice them.  He will have to cancel offers that he has put together or change his technique.  He will figure it out.  Sterling is good, not perfect.  I think he has improved on some of techniques and will have to continue.  The NIAFL would also continue to improve its quality and competition.

Dooley, you said Sterling is one of your on-board favorites so its not that he is unredeemedly offensive.  I admit thast some of his offers and techniques pissed me off at times.  But once I got over it, you realize how to deal with it, and have fun.

Certainly not offensive. Mostly hilariously squirrelly.

You have to understand that the NIA is the league where Chris_L, who was 298 games back in last place at the All-Star break, played so hard and so well he ended up almost finishing in the top six.  Where the final four teams churned 140 pitchers in 6 days.  Where non-competitive behavior is cause for removal, not to mention public and humiliating excoriation, as well as saran wrap on the toilet seat.

Really, it seems like the other leagues are just in need of some good marketing....some brand identity.  A good thread, at the very least.

lawrence, appreciate the interest on your part.

Part of where you're coming from stems I'm sure from my comment about not actively seeking free agents, etc. after a certain time. I was in the playoff chase until the last week, and when I was bounced, I decided to stick with the team I had. Plus, things got busy, etc., etc. I just wasn't going to manage a team as hard playing through the consolation bracket. Such is life.

Football's another story. ... Marcus' Liquor Shop was not happy with the 0-2 start, so we made some very solid moves within the framework of our league and appear primed for 2-2, as long as DeShaun Foster doesn't rush for 700 yards and 8 touchdowns tomorrow night.

  8. I believe the competition is good in the NIAFL, just saying it could be improved with a more open format.

There is no doubt that the NIAFL is the most visible league with its own thread and identity, and with that comes an attraction to play in it.  I admit, I am curious about the competition, as other managers may be, and how I/we would do against the competition there.

The marketing and brand identity is a good idea.  I will speak to the commish of the NIAFL2 about making a name and other changes.

Look, it's nothing against you, but the people in this league are in it because they have been at SportsJournalists.com through several variations. In some cases, people have met each other offline.

Everyone is very comfortable with each other and trust that they won't do anything stupid. They know it will be a competitive league and look forward to it.

No other league has had staying power. The commish starts a league, posts the info on the board to join and the first 12 people who want it are in. Then, the season ends and the 12 people go their separate ways.

Here, these 12 people have made a committment to stay together.
