My problem with Crossfit is the shitty technique they allow on Olympic lifts. Watch one of their "competitions" and you'll see lumbar regions ready to crumble.

Oh, and in the old days, we called it "working out"

The only burpees I perform are at the public house.

CrossFit gets a lot of shit slung at it, but for a couple of years -- say, 2007-2009 -- I was a devoted CrossFitter and was in the best shape of my life and strong as hell. Tons of pullups, dips, pushups, squats and Olympic lifts will do that. These days I'm getting old and fat.

Got a few buddies who have done it for at least 3 years. Almost all have suffered injuries. There have been several articles on how the technique and sequence of exercises have led to injuries. It definitely is a competition. Have a buddy who made regionals, and if anyone saw him you'd wonder how tough it must be to make the nationals. At the nationals, Reebok sponsors it and there are always Nike reps trying to pass out stuff. They are not allowed within a certain distance of the venue.

We had dinner a few months ago with a good friend who I worked with many years ago and his wife. They are both very in shape and she recently got into Crossfit. Holy crap, she couldn't talk about anything else the entire meal.

In a related story, she recently left him for a workout partner, saying the her soon to be ex-husband couldn't relate to her Crossfit lifestyle.

Just curious: is her workout partner male or female?

I assumed male, but he didn't say and I didn't think to ask. If it helps your fantasies, assume she left him for a woman.

Just gives a new meaning to CROSSfit if one team switches sides.
