How fucking jaded have we become when we're calling a potential 12-0 season fraudulent?

I have stated my hatred of Notre Dame before. Just sayin', tho.

OK, you're right. Notre Dame is now allowed only to schedule conference champions. Nebraska two years ago would not have been appropriate, and Texas A&M last year would have been a joke. But when those two were/will be at the top of the Big 12, then they're cool to schedule them. Notre Dame just better know for sure which year those teams will be good. And there's no more in-state games against Purdue. Can't have that any more.

I'm sorry. I don't remember when I said anything about other seasons and other teams. But you keep building those straw men and burning them to the ground. Meanwhile, I'll simply say again ...

Notre Dame's schedule this year is a joke. Anyone associated with creating it should feel shame. There are at least five SEC teams that would be unbeaten heading into the SoCal game.

But, listen, if all the Irish need to do to be in the national title hunt is beat up on 10 tomato cans, Michigan and Southern Cal, then more power to them.

My bad. The discussion was about teams that run the table heading into the Southern Cal game. That's what I should have said, instead of "running the table."

Scheduling luck often plays into national championships in football - I think the '88 Notre Dame team didn't play a ranked opponent from the time they beat Michigan to start the season until the mid-October Miami showdown.

For anyone who looks at Notre Dame's schedule as a joke, look at it this way -- the Irish have already beaten more ranked teams this season (Penn State) than they have last season. And they can add to that this week with Michigan. Goergia Tech is no joke at home, and Michigan State -- while not the best team -- did open a chan of whoop ass on the Irish last season.

Just curious, when did the ND-Boston College series end, and why? I liked that series.

Actually, that depends on which poll you are talking about. As of Week 3, Penn State is No. 25 in the AP poll, but unranked in the coaches' poll. And after the Michigan game, it's eight weeks of marshmallow -- though UCLA and Purdue are at least receiving a vote or two in the polls.

Oz, apparently the teams meet in South Bend in 2008.

. . . and will be an annual fixture for years, after that. They kissed and made up.

Ben, last fall ND had cut off the series after 2010. Hadn't seen anything to note they were putting BC back on the schedule, though it would make the huge ND alumni base in the Northeast happy (and possibly help with recruiting up there).

I say this as an Irish fan - thank God no more BC. Those bastards always ruined Notre Dame's NC hopes!

But you're right, that was a helluva rivalry.
