NY Daily News: Ankiel linked to HGH

You're comparing breaking drug trafficing laws to getting a moving violation? That's absurd.

And there is relevance to what he is doing today. Did the HGH help make him stronger? Did that strength help him hit balls further, straighter and longer?

Sure as shooting, if he's brought before a Congressional subcommittee, there's nothing that he, the Cards, the Players Union or MLB can do.

This is why the story doesn't do anything to me.
1, Did he take the drugs?
2, If he did, when did he stop?
    3, Is he still using.
That's what's missing and I'm not completely sold on it, yet.

Ragu, I didn't make myself clear. That's my fault. I agree with you. The "it wasn't officially banned" argument doesn't hold water with me, simply because these guys know they are breaking the law of the land, which supersedes MLB's rules.

Story does a lot for many people, boots.

Let's argue that he didn't use. Then, did he distribute? That's a felony. That's an even bigger story.

As it is right now, it's another gold star for the NYDN's sports-investigation team. Markvid was right. The dam's about to burst and a lot of big names, many sacred cows are about to be exposed as cheats.

I thought it was a good read but it was a quick hit kind of story. It was missing elements such as what I pointed out that kept it from being a great story.
But in time, who knows what may happen.

Let me know when you're ready to see the list. I have the first part done. I'm pretty sure it'll get the thread locked, though, and you've already managed to get two three locked today.

Updated to reflect the latest closure.

Will we see the hat trick? Only the shadow knows...

Having looked more closely - it's already a hat trick. Can he land the quad?

    Ha ha,

This stuff is too funny at this stage. Who told you all of this (JDV)??? This is the tip of the iceberg peeps.

Man, I am so glad Lupica & Costas ended "the steroid era" with Bonds (alledged), McGwire (alledged & denied), and Canseco (openly admitted). Yeah, it's really great that we NEVER have to worry about PEDS again.

I am also sure so many HOF voters can feel proud that they kept a natural HOF player like Mac out on no solid evidence when everyone else was so clean. I am also glad that the NFL is totally clean and MLB is the ONLY sport who uses PEDS - ha ha ha ha. Oh man!

Look it, these are pro athletes & it is a free country. I think we need long term safety testing and doc supervision & they should be able to do what they want within reason. Many of these sports are way more dangerous than the PEDS. I personally don't like drugs but I am also more or less a Libertarian and practical.

Anyway, my contention has always been that my methods are better and doing things without drugs will get you better & more reliable long term results - particularly in skill sports. That is why I have a demand for my services.

For the moment, I am tired of this subject, but I have to gloat a bit & laugh since I could have (and still can) shed so much light on this and saved a lot of the big sports J's a lot of time and a LOT of egg on their face. For example, I like Bob Ryan a lot, but what he recently said on the Sports Reporters about this was embarrassing and showed total ignorance of this subject. His whole argument made no sense (which I think boiled down to PED use/"scandal" only mattered for famous/skill position players an he had no idea who was using what but let's damn McGwre & Bonds for no particular reason - brilliant!). Look it, if you don't know that is fine, but don't make broad damning statements and opine - ok. Or make a call/email to someone with REAL knowledge who worked with REAL big name elite athletes. Come on peeps it isn't that hard.

Again, what kills many in the profession is the arrogance and only wanting to work with the "in-clique." Honestly, you find that much less in other journalistic sectors (news/politics/arts). It is some strange thing for SJ's. It is almost like you guys write for yourselves. I NEVER do that. Everything I do is for my audience. I go where the info is & stories/subjects take me. Heck, I love working with new people.

Anyway, look it I am trying to help you guys (again). Lot of talent here just up your game and reach out to others. Believe me you will get ahead fast and improve your columns and such.
