I know spnited, which is why I ask was he given a chance before the story broke. From what he said the press conference would'ven pretty much killed the original story.

It's a story (though not nearly as significant as the DN would have you believe) and it should have been published because it involves a guy who's doing some remarkable things this year. That said, there's a lot of unanswered questions (holes?) and Ankiel should have been given the opportunity to respond for the first story. The writers obviously aren't responsible for all of the over-the-top sensationalism (headlines graphics, placement), except to the point where they don't raise objections about it with their editors. The "I-Team" graphic almost made me puke. I'd be pretty embarrassed to have my name on it.

I agree with your observations. I said before that I didn't think they were throwing shit against the wall and hoping that something stuck. Now, I'm wavering a bit.

  5. If you think this story was balanced, you're as stupid as the jackasses that wrote it. They never gave Ankiel a chance to respond, they only reported one side of the story and while they tried to make it look balanced it was NOT.

Like I said, do all of your homework, cover your bases, then go with it. Quit trying to be the Next Sensation with the next Sensational Story. It's sickening. The I-graphic is disgusting. Anyone who thinks the original story has balance, fairness and objectivity need to check into the Mayo Clinic for an evaluation.

Just watch and see how the world reacts. Ankiel will not be a villain, mark it down. Bonds will forever be.

Huck, I re-read the story and while the reporting is good, the balance is awful.

Well said and thought out, if more Journalist had this much thought and care into what they were writing we would be more trusting about the stories they break.

    From the original DN story:

Do your own homework, before you rip other people for not doing theirs.

But the didn't ask Ankiel. They went to the moutpiece instead. I think that's the point that baffles me and others. If the story was as big as they are making it out to be, I understand going to the agent, but at least attempt to go to guy centered around the controversy.

So basically they ran with the story without any balance because they didn't have the time to wait for an answer. It was so important to get the story out that ethics and good journalism were not really that important.

    Edit
    As boots says above.

Maybe they should have tried to talk to Ankiel himself.
