Holder says that if he had surrendered, they would have accepted the surrender. He did not surrender.

Starman, I think this should be the POY, or at least the post-of-the-thread.

Nothing has been better said in all 72+ pages.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but the White House has announced the photos will not be released.

Eric Holder said that his surrender would have been accepted.

Is Holder part of the "anti-Obama brigade" now?

Yeah, see, those kind of screw-ups invite scrutiny. I'm cracking open Krakauer's Tillman book tonight. I never finished it. I probably will this week, though. Not because I think Obama and the administration did anything wrong. But because I think it's fascinating how this stuff gets spun. Why the need to sell this so hard? This of all things?

Old military maxim: The first reports are always wrong. We have been presented with a lot of sixth-hand accounts of a chaotic, high-stress combat situation from people who were about 10,000 miles away when it happened -- and whose business is spin. Jay Carney's a flack, not a military historian. Constant revision of the story is inevitable. Hell's bells, there will be hundreds of books published about the Civil War during the next four years claiming that accounts of battles previously published were all wrong.

What the hell, another next day backflip?

I'm an Obama voter and supporter, but I must admit to being puzzled by the signals from the White House the last couple days. First, we get the reporting of embellished false details that had to be retracted the next day, now we get the "no photo, OK we will produce a photo, wait no photo..." daily wishy wash game. That shit communicates a terrible message to the world of a White House staff that ain't on the some page and doesn't have it's act together. Are they TRYING to take the wind from the sails of their greatest triumph?

And why not release a photo? Do they think the world will just blindly accept their word without seeing some sort of proof? Of course it'll be gruesome, but if it's gotta be done.... And eventually this very likely WILL have to be done: amazing how much traction this dumbassed "deather" thing has gained worldwide in only a couple days. Is the White House really gonna let that fester, catch fire and grow into a bona fide movement until they're FORCED to release some proof? You know, like they did with the birth certificate and the birther crap. I don't get it.

But more importantly, from now on, White House, could you please refrain from reporting facts and decisions to the world until you're ABSOLUTELY SURE they're correct or your mind is made up?
