I’m thinking this is a trick question and it’s a lighthouse on a lake, not the ocean. Therefore, I’m going to guess Michigan.

There have been Supreme Court justices appointed from 32 states and the District of Columbia. Most of the other 18 states are west of the Mississippi.

Name the two states among the 13 original colonies that have never had someone appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

HINT: The list I'm working off is the state where the new justice lived when he or she was appointed. For example, William O. Douglas is well known to have grown up in Washington state, but when he was appointed to the Supreme Court, he lived in Connecticut.

Whoops, there goes one of the 13 colonies!

Yes. I was surprised to see there have been Supreme Court justices from New Hampshire (and Maine, although it was not among the original 13).

Yes, and there is an older justice from the 1800s who also is from N.H.

Who was the first American to be awarded the Victoria Cross of Great Britain, the highest and most prestigious decoration of the British honors system?

Ben Franklin sounds like he should be the winner, but I'll guess they held a grudge and didn't award it to an American until bestowing it upon .... Johnny Cash.
