Fun fact, Robinson won it twice. Brooks and Frank Robinson that is. Edit: Micro had the years right. Frank won in 66 and Brooks won it in 70.

And we have the complete list. Reggie and Sandy are the beginning and end of it. Honestly I thought the list would be longer especially with the Yankees' run in the 90s.

Four active NFL/AFL players died during the 1963-65 seasons. Who, and how?

Kansas City's Mack Lee Hill died on an operating table during knee surgery.

Willie Gallimore of Chicago was killed in auto accident on his way to Bears' training camp. IIRC, a teammate was killed as well, but don't remember this name.

KC’s Stone Johnson (great name, BTW) died as a result of injuries suffered in a preseason game.

The fourth guy was Bo Farrington of the Bears.

The Bears retired Galimore's number, as did the Chiefs' for MLH.

My first thought was Gene "Big Daddy" Lipscomb died around that time. I looked it up and he died of a heroin OD in May of 1963, just missing the "1963-65 seasons" criteria.

I had forgotten about him. A prominent player of his era. There was also a guy for the New York Titans who died of a neck injury suffered in a 1960 game. And Chuck Hughes of the Lions, and Bob Kalsu of the Bills, killed in Vietnam.

Howard Glenn was the NY Titan who died of the neck injury. He’d gotten hurt the week before, but was persuaded to play, and it was discovered afterward that he had a broken neck. They sure didn’t do much about injuries back then.

The phrase about winning something "hands down" originated with this sport.
