That is correct. He had 28 pinch hits for the Rockies in 1995.

Was going to guess Jerry Hairston (Sr.) who seemed to regularly pinch hit for the White Sox throughout the 1970s and 80s … but looking it up, he took three seasons in the middle of his career to play in Mexico before returning to the White Sox in 1981.

Probably most famous these days for being the father of Jerry Hairston Jr.

Name the former NHL player who invented the polycarbonate hockey visor.

Thank you ... fixed. Kinda funny, in retrospect. The guy went to work on it after being nicked in an eye during a beer league game.

In that vein -- and I know everyone knows this -- name the former NFL player who invented the Nerf football.

IIRC, Fred Cox ... longtime Minnesota kicker?

Yes. I didn't think it would take too long to get that one.

The first patent went to Dale Kasper, followed by Bill Everett. But I don't think either played in the NHL. Did you mean Ken Clay? He fits the injury description, but again, I couldn't find any record of him playing in the NHL.

(I totally cheated, but I was curious... and I like to provide sources!)

Cool. The key word is polycarbonate.
The answer is Robin Burns. Had a few cups of coffee with the Pittsburgh Penguins, then two seasons with the long-forgotten Kansas City Scouts.

Except the Everetts' visor is polycarbonate, and was invented before Robin Burns' version... if the linked reports are accurate. I watch too much "Shark Tank," so I'm all about patenting the inventions.

You could be right. I went off a Tim Loenes story about 14 years ago in Harrisburg.
    EDIT: Leone
