Excluding relievers and partial seasons (1981, 1994 and 2020), what Cy Young award winner had the fewest strikeouts the year they won it?

I’ll start with Randy Jones because he threw so few pitches. But if not him, Warren Spahn.

I did not look up the answer, but did look at the list of all-time winners. Using your criteria, my WAG is Mike McCormick of the Giants in 1967, with 150.

Randy Jones is correct. He only had 93 strikeouts when he won it in 1976.
Pete Vuckovich is second, with 105 in 1982, and Spahn had 111 in 1957.

I can’t recall which book I read it in (either a recap of the 75 or 76 season), but I remember jones getting known for forcing so many guys into grounders and not going for K’s.

Since it’s Super Bowl week: Most people know that Max McGee scored the first touchdown in Super Bowl history. Who scored the second?

I do know the score was 14-10 Packers at halftime. My guess is Chuck Mercier or Donny Anderson.
