If the number of African Americans in the NBA shrinks because better players come in from around the world, is this a problem? Isn't it supposed to be about merit? God knows, I don't think it's a "problem" that the NBA doesn't have more white players.

After Jesse Jackson's Algonquin Roundtable with the Atlanta Braves, I'm not so sure that it's always about merit. Among most people yes. But not always when it comes to the biggest rabble rousers.

MLB should have a problem with so few black players, because it's losing potential All-Stars and Hall-of-Famers to other sports. MLB - and MLB fans - should want to have as many great athletes - black, white, whatever - play the sport and become great at it, because that makes the sport more entertaining.

Let's take race out as a factor and replace it with geography, imagining that blacks hailed solely from, say, Florida. It'd be a shame if Floridians, with a rich history since being allowed to play in 1947, slowly vanished from the sport, all the while showing athleticism in other sports that could carry over to baseball. The game would benefit if Floridians kept playing.

Interest in baseball among these "Floridians" has clearly diminished, but MLB shouldn't just give up. It should do its best to sell "Floridians" on playing baseball. It just seems like good business sense to me.

Shhhh. He's thinking. We're all helping him craft his answer/retort/riposte/counterargument right now.

If he mentions that the B story with "Venom" felt tacked on in "Syriana," I want credit.

Fen, I asked that same question a few pages ago and Jason's response, basically, was: que?

Ok, it's not the greatest thread title. But it is saying he'll have something to say on it, not that he has something to say on it.

I took it to mean he's working on a column right now.

So to repeat what I said earlier...why not start the thread once you have something to say?

Otherwise, it's attention whore behavior to announce you're going to say something. Just freaking say it.
