    Sorry to hear about your troubles;

    Go to your nearest Chinatown and buy 2 things: (1) rice cooker; and (2) a wok.

    With a rice cooker, all you do is put rice in it, add water (thumbnail over top of rice surface) and push button. Rice cooker tells you when its done. So easy, no mess. All sizes available; large, medium, even small/single serving.

    With a wok, you can stir fry ANYTHING; beef, chicken, pork. Anything you can cut up into small pieces. Then you just "stir fry" and add whatever ingredients you want; then learn to make sauces (soy sauce, white wine, water and corn starch are basics). Then voila, you've got a meal.

    Or not. Judge "apologized," thought we had reached an agreement. Holy shit this is a Lifetime movie in reverse.

    I tip my hat to anyone who finds time to cook while working a newspaper (or media) job.

    If you use part of a day off each week as grill time and cook time, you can make a bunch of stuff in bulk, portion it out and freeze it in plastic containers, and then you'll eat great every day at work. The real bonus is that you avoid the fast-food rut, too.

    Three or four hours on a day off, or even after work some night. And once you get in the habit of doing this, you'll look forward to it each week, and your menu will expand.

    I've worked 70-hour weeks and still cooked my own meals. It's quite easy and can be quite a time saver.

    Yup, me and two co-workers figure out what to make, we get together on Mondays and knock a week of food (lunch and dinners for not just us, but my wife as well) in about 3 hours. We usually make 5 main dishes and a few sides. Some are as easy as taking two packets of dried potatoes or rice and popping them in the microwave then dishing them into containers (old Chinese takeout boxes with lids are great to use).
    A few are made almost each time (red beans and rice, chicken enchiladas are two of them) but then we branch out into mini-turkey meatloafs, salmon stirfry...whatever we find that doesn't take all day to make.
    When we can't get together, I usually just crockpot something and package it up when I get home from work.

    Last time I home-cooked a real meal, Bill Clinton still lived at 1600 PA.

    Good for your and your co-workers for getting this together. If y'all get along well enough to cook together, I hope that translates into a more awesome workplace.

    Just as in any newsroom, there is a group of people that get along, another group that gets along...a few weirdos that all of us could do without...
    ....and then there is management! :D
