That was when they were playing Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame each year and that's when all of those teams were usually pretty good...

Granted, they won at Tuscaloosa, but they also had some cupcakes ... Rutgers, BC in the first year of the post-Flutie era, Maryland (which did throw a scare into them), Cincinnati and East Carolina.

  3. Apples and oranges. There was truly a split title in 1997, as the coaches voted for Nebraska (who Vegas said was about a five-point favorite against Michigan). Nebraska took both polls in 95, though I think you actually mean 94, when Nebraska again took both polls. Now, we can argue about whether that was right or wrong, but it was not a split championship.

Penn State was screwed in 1994, when they should've won the title.

Tommy O got that one on a pity vote.

Not to threadjack, but SportsJournalists.com's own Jim Carty was just holding court on ESPN about this very subject.

    Carry on.

Did he say anything of note?

Not in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, he didn't. Our tax dollars at work:
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF PENNSYLVANIA HOUSE RESOLUTION No. 6 - Session of 1995
And while I mock our legislature, I agree with their findings. ;D

I hate to admit I didn't hear it. It was on one of the TVs here -- the one with the volume down.

Wasn't that the year the Nittany Lions pulled 99 percent of a shit-the-bed job at home against Indiana late in the season?

At least it wasn't a full crap-the-bed job like they did against Minnesota five years later.

Always wondered how Glen Mason could be JoePa's favorite Big Ten buddy after that disgrace.

You can't even blame that one on Fast Eddie!

Wrong year... He got the pity vote in 1997. Nebraska would have demolished Penn State in 1994 and that's coming from someone who despises the Cornhuskers...
