Top-five team in front of 100,000 on its home field.

    I feel shame.

ND next week is the real litmus test. ND sucks, sucks, sucks. Sucks in gleaming golden technicolor.

UM loses that one, they could be looking at 3-9 or something of that order.

Unless there's a totally astonishing turnaround, he'll coach out the season. Announce his retirement the week before OSU.
(Which isn't exactly looking like a world-beater these days, either.)

That big stiff had one hell of a game in the Army whateverthefuck high school bowl. He should be a good one. But, point taken. You don't see Mich have a running QB often (ever?)

For years and years, under Schembechler, that's all they had. Harbaugh was really the first pro-type QB they had, and they went back to a couple option guys after he left. I believe Carr was the OC or the QB coach for many of these option QBs.

Oz, no doubt about that. I took issue with sportschick's argument that I-AA teams aren't in the same league as I-A teams. That's bullshit. Like the examples you cited, BCS teams go down all the time to I-AA clubs. I don't think App State is better than 60% of I-A schools, but the percentage is a hell of a lot higher than 0. Talent isn't what's keeping ASU from jumping to I-A.

Didn't I hear that we weren't supposed to talk about "I-A" and "I-AA" any more? That the NCAA wants us to use the supposedly less confusing terms "FBS" and "FCS"? How's that change working out?

Carr's future should be based on the recruits they are trying to sign. Carr is a lame duck, but will this sway current recruits from not atteneding Michigan? I do not know.

Many kids want to know who will be their college coach, but how do hire or name a coach three weeks into the season?

  10. He needs to spend more time with his family.

Perhaps he'll have that opportunity when he's tapped later this fall to head up the reconstruction of Iraq. A perfect hire.

In fairness to Carr, that big stiff had no shortage of suitors. Mallett was Rivals' top player in Texas last year. His arm's incredible. But goodness, was there any worse situation to put a true freshman dropback passer into than one where every down was a passing down, and Mike Hart was breaking down? Let's give him a 0-0 score to start from before slamming Carr for that one.
