I won't be going, but did want to share that I can't wait to hit Vegas next month for my bachelor party to watch gamblers live and die with every play in the NFL playoffs, lay down some bets and play the craps table with the boys. First time there.

We're staying at the Barbary Coast, if that's the name. Sounds right.

That's the name. Great location. Good rooms.

East Coaster here who might be going. Any other Easterners give me a shout about room sharing or whatnot.

Instead of going through 15 pages, has anyone suggested actually staying at a place just off the strip like the Orleans or Rio or South Coast, which is located before Mandalay Bay? Just wondering.

OK, is the idea for everyone to stay at the same place? Seems unlikely, but maybe. Finding the perfect convergence of price and amenities might be tough, but here's a short list of what a hotel probably should hold: 100-plus seat sports book for NCAA losing; poker room for those so inclined to lose their ass that way; two or three decent restaurants, plus a buffet for 3 a.m. biscuits and gravy; some sort of nightclub; central(ish) location. For me, health club so I don't die when I return home.
Any other necessities? Make a list, check it twice.

Blackjack for less than $15 a hand.

I'm only going if there's a Tim Horton's on the strip that sells strawberry tarts.

That's tough to find these days. The Sahara has it, but it has a really bad sportsbook. At one point, I think Ides suggested the Treasure Island as the meetup hotel.

Orleans is cheap; Rio is not, but it's pretty nice. I don't know anything about the South Coast. The Palms is nice but more expensive than it used to be before it was really hip.

And sorry Wicked, no Tim's in Vegas as far as I know.

I don't know if it's still the case, but the Frontier used to be cheap because they were being picketed by the hotel workers' union. I'm not crossing a line to save 10 bucks a night.

If I can't play blackjack, then there's no reason for me to go.

    Have fun, y'all!

You can play. Downtown has lots of $5 and $10 blackjack. It's just not the best place to stay. Also, you can go to the Sahara or Imperial Palace on the strip. It's just that the hotels with cheap blackjack aren't the nicest places to stay.

    Bump:

Just noticed there will be an Arena League game in Vegas on April 1. Utah Blaze vs. Las Vegas Gladiators.

Anyone got a connection down there for group tickets? Or should we just let everyone concentrate on drinking, gambling and other manners of debauchery.
