Take note of this scenario: When have two unbeaten teams played this late in the season, with the loser knowing that the absolute worst that can happen is that they'll be in the Rose Bowl?

Not neccesarily true. Rose Bowl is committed to the Big Ten champ, unless it goes to the BCS title game.
And, assuming they win out and USC goes elsewhere, Notre Dame would be a possibility for the other spot.

I doubt the Rose Bowl would be interested in having a Michigan-Notre Dame rematch. Or having Ohio State-Notre Dame to recreate the Fiesta Bowl from last season. Been there, done that.

The only thing that column missed was the assertion that should Michigan win by two touchdowns, say 27-13, Wisconsin would deserve a rematch every bit as much Ohio State. I noticed Rutgers got no mention in that column, too.

Dude, the Big Ten champ is going to the 1-2 game. That means the Rose gets a replacement team. You think they won't take the loser of that game, if it drops below No. 2 in the final BCS standings?

You guys are dreaming if you don't think the Rose won't do everything it can to make sure it still has a Pac-10 vs. Big Ten game. And if they lose one or both of those conference champions, they'll match the two runners-up in their game.

If you weren't on the teleconference just now with the guys from the Master Coaches poll -- Bo Schembechler, Vince Dooley, R.C. Slocum, John Cooper and John Robinson, five of the 17 voters -- you missed some great discussion about this game and about the polls.

If you're not on the mailing list for info about that poll and would like contact info, PM me. I enjoy every chance I get to hear those guys talk.

In case you're interested, that poll and other info is available on www.mcspoll.com.

I don't disagree. What I'm just saying that Notre Dame would present a rematch from a regular-season game with one, a rematch from last year's bowl game with the other, so maybe Notre Dame isn't such a good fall-back option.

    I wasn't thinking Michigan-Notre Dame.,..
But if Cal wins the Pac-10, Rose Bowl doesn't have to take Michigan or Ohio State since the loser would be the Big Ten runner-up, not the champ. Since the champ goes to the BCS game, Rose Bowl gets first pick at the rest of the field.
So think Cal-Notre Dame, a team that hasn't been to Pasadena on Jan. 1 since 1925...

Just can't see Cal winning the Pac-10.

If Cal beats USC, it's in. USC plays UCLA and Cal plays has-to-improve-to-be-hapless Stanford.

If USC wins the Pac-10, Rose Bowl takes the Big 10 runner up because it wont take ND-USC, the sequel. If it's Cal, make book on ND...

Does that mean Air Raid will get to shred the Bears again?
