I didn't say don't have a rematch. But I would like to hear input from the posters here in answer to that scenario. I'll repeat:

    1. Ohio State defeated Michigan Saturday, at home, by three points.

    2. If there is a rematch, and Michigan beats Ohio State, by three points, on a neutral field, who's the national champion?

Don't hear much about those '96 Florida State national champs, do ya?

'Course, the Gators beat 'em by about 30-something, not 3 ...

Yeah, but the national championship is different a regular season game. The national championship is played to find out who the champion is. Forget about everything else. If you think that a one-loss USC(a loss to OREGON STATE) team or a one loss Notre Dame(they got kilt by Michigan, almost lost to MSU and UCLA, and have a very easy schedule) team should be ranked higher than Michigan, then you're wrong.
Should Michigan go back for a rematch: Yes(at least I think so)
    Will it happen? : No

You are correct sir. Every year I hope for the most convoluted, fucked-up scenario to show how stupid it is to do anything but have a playoff. Almost every year, it happens, but nothing changes.

Rutgers should change its name to the Hurricane(s). Then they could go 0-12 and still count on your 25th-place vote.

So, if the Bears had made it to the Super Bowl last year and eked out a victory over the Steelers, would you be saying the Steelers had a legitimate claim to the championship becuase they kicked the crap out of the Bears in Chicago in the regular season?

    Because rematches historically become mismatches
Because I've seen it once, I DON"T need to see it again
Because if USC beats ND and UCLA they deserve the shot
    and ....

Because I like getting you and Michigan-fanboy Chuck Taylor riled up

The chance of a rematch being as entertaining as the first OSU-Michigan game is very small. Most boxing rematches are anticlimaxes, most big budget sequels suck. There's a better chance of an entertaining title game with a different challenger.
What interests me is that last year two undefeated teams met in the Rose Bowl and the score was 41-38. Now we had two unbeatens meet and it was 42-39. The Ohio St. and Michigan defenses had been very good all year, and they couldn't do a thing. The Texas and USC defenses hadn't been THAT bad. What gives?

You forgot that USC lost to Oregon State.
