So, let's just ignore the idea of having the best two teams in the country in the title game so the ratings will be better, right?

ND lost to Michigan. By 26. In South Bend.
Michigan, meanwhile, lost to No. 1 Ohio State. By 3. In Columbus.
There is no way in hell that Notre Dame deserves even a sniff at the BCS title game before Michigan does, among the one-loss teams.

And yes, Jimmy, there is a clear-cut No. 1 this year. Much as I hate to say it, as a Big Blue fanboy, Ohio State is clearly No. 1 right now. Taking off the Big Blue fanboy hat, I would also argue that Michigan is No. 2. Not quite as clear-cut, but definitely T-2 with USC, at worst. At worst.

USC is the only team in the country that has a chance to upset a UM-OSU rematch in the title game. All USC has to do is win out, and I wouldn't argue against them for a second. But Notre Dame doesn't deserve a chance in hell at the title game.

  4. I love SEC football. The color! The pageantry! The coeds!
However, Florida loses to either Michigan or OSU by three touchdowns. And Arkansas?
    Ick.

If USC runs the table, it will be USC
If Florida wins convincingly, and uSC doesn't win out, it will be Florida.
If if Arkansas beats Florida and USC loses, it will be Michigan

  6. If USC doesn't win out, that means they lose to ND, which then plays Ohio State while everyone else in the country screams.

Slappy is correct. A rematch is the least desirable of the possible options for the Fox-BCS combine. Not a bad option, merely the least desirable.
One side effect of the amazing number of one-loss teams as of now (some of 'em will become two-loss teams) is there should be some excellent matchups in the AAA level bowls (Gator, Cotton, Sun, Citrus, etc.), more interesting in fact than some of the BCS matchups. ACC champ vs. Notre Dame? Who cares?
Oh, and by the way, do they break the tie in the Big East standings between Louisville and West Virginia on head to head matchup?

Then Michigan is the national champion because it won the national championship. I watched a volleyball match yesterday where the region champion lost the state title to a team it beat last week. Who's the state champion? The team that won yesterday's match. Because it was the state title match. Even if the region champion beat them 10 times in the regular season, yesterday's match was the state title match, and the winner gets to call themselves the state champions regardless of anything else.

So it shall be if Ohio State-Michigan play in the national title game.

    Tie in the Big East...
BCS bid goes to the team with the higher BCS ranking.
Team No. 2 gets the Gator Bowl (unless ND doesn't get a BCS bid and thereby "steals" the Big East Gator bid...not likely).
That puts Rutgers (10-2 after they lose at Morgantown) in the Motor City Bowl or the Texas Bowl or something like that.

Clearly USC has the toughest road to the title game: Cal, Notre Dame, UCLA. If the Trojans win out, which I fear they won't, then they're out of the equation, leaving Notre Dame, Michigan and Florida/Arkansas. I've seen Florida and Arkansas this season and while they're good, they don't play sexy-enough football to turn me on enough to the idea either should play OSU. That leaves, in my mind, Notre Dame and Michigan.

Yes, Michigan smoked Notre Dame two months ago in South Bend, and everybody's going to use that game as the defining factor as to why Michigan deserves a rematch with OSU. It's a legitimate argument. I'd rather see Notre Dame. Football is too short of a season to see rematches.

Edit: If Notre Dame beats No. 2 USC, at No. 2 USC, I think it balances out Notre Dame's home loss to Michigan and gives the Irish a very legitimate argument to play No. 1.

Maybe, Songbird, but ... ain't no way Notre Dame's beating USC.

    Or UCLA

And it's not about who anyone would rather see in a game. Are all of you saying you'd rather see Notre Dame because they are a better, more deserving team than anyone else, because you don't want to see a rematch by its nature, or because you are enamored with Notre Dame, perpetuating the ideal raise on other threads of the media in love with Notre Dame.

The first is a legitimate reason, the second is not and the third is expected of fanboys.
