  1. If you don't win your conference, you shouldn't play for the national title. Period.

Valid point. Following that logic, independent Notre Dame would deserve no consideration.

Why? I'm not saying Michigan should get in the title game. But if you're the second-best team in the country who happens to be in the same league as the No. 1 team, why should you get penalized for that?

Why do I get this feeling that if Notre Dame went to the national title game ahead of Michigan, it would be Bo's first turning in his grave? Seriously, do you think Bo would turn down a rematch with Ohio State so fucking NOTRE DAME can get it? Michigan people hate Notre Dame almost as much as Ohio State. Respect the dead coaches' memories by sticking Notre Dame, Florida, USC or Arkansas in the title game? I highly doubt it.

For the last freaking time --

Notre Dame cannot go to the national title game.

They got smoked by Michigan. At home.

If USC wins out, they have a case.

    If they don't, it's a rematch.

  6. Don't get me started on how ND works the system.

Zeke, Michigan should go over Florida or Arkansas? I guarantee you both the Gators and Hogs have had a tougher road than the Wolverines...

Michigan is better than Arkansas or Florida.

    My humble opinion.

I just can't believe people still think Notre Dame has a shot.

The *names* on Florida's schedules look impressive on the surface. But beating Georgia and beating FSU this year ... are not impressive wins. Those teams are not good at all. Tennessee keeps dropping, and that win is looking less impressive by the week. The Auburn win was legit, so was the LSU win. But I don't think Florida's road was *that* much tougher than Michigan's.

Arkansas has one impressive win on its schedule, and that was at Auburn. I just don't think beating Tennessee was that big a deal. The Hogs' schedule was nothing. LSU next week will add some credibility, but that's it. Plus, they got shellacked by USC. They just don't deserve a shot, even if they beat Florida in the SEC championship.

If USC wins out, they're going to the BCS title game. If not, it's got to be Michigan.

I think they do, but that's because I tend to expect the worst. Notre Dame doesn't deserve to go, but they might.

    How?

It just doesn't make any sense to me.

I'm not reading through 14-15 pages of this thread because I don't have the time, but has anyone explained how this game can be considered a classic, while the Louisville-West Virginia game was being dismissed due to a lack of defense?

It seems to me, this was the case up in Columbus as well. And Ohio State does indeed look vulnerable against an athletic team, like say USC.

I wouldn't call Louisville's D piss poor because it nearly shutout K State at K State, while Texas surrendered 45 to the Cats. Louisville also has held Miami, Temple and South Flordia to single digits or less this year.

Louisville's D is good -- it was just on the field too long against Rutgers in the second half. And while it gave up serious yardage to WVU (BTW, who hasn't?), Louisville did cause turnovers and capitalized on them. The D helped Louisville beat West Virginia.

My question was somewhat rhetorical because college football favors traditional powers. They will always get the benefit of the doubt. However, there are other teams that deserve credit for solid (if not outstanding) seasons. Louisville and WVU are two of them.
