Oklahoma State coach Gundy blasts Oklahoman columnist

Though it's not coming up for me at all right now, I rarely have a problem finding what I need on the site.

I think the paper, however, is mediocre at best.

 

Whoops. Um, for the record, I apologize for the "orange vulva" comment. Vulvas are among my very favorite things in life, so I guess it is pretty dumb to use it an epithet. Obviously, I was assailing Gundy's manhood by comparing him to something quintessentially female. And "vulva" packs more punch than say, for example, "Holly Hobby lunchbox" or "pink cell phone." But yeah, lazy and not very nice.

When I was in my idealistic youth, I never used the word "bitch"...reasoning that it was as bad as the n-word but more socially acceptable because sexism is generally more socially acceptable than racism. Then I got disgusted by the people who freak out over a word choice and treat it like a bigger deal than, say, war or poverty. Then I just got lazy. I use bitch as both a verb and a noun, not frequently, but sometimes, and this thread has made me wonder if I shouldn't once again purge that word from my vocabulary. Same thing goes for tard comments.

Please accept my contrition, women of SportsJournalists.com and elsewhere.

I know this is entirely off the subject, but I just read the comments on the blog that was posted on page 2 of this thread and have to laugh. There was one comment ripping Jenni for writing a critical column about Tiger Woods. It may not have even been that critical (I don't read the papers!), but it said he had no personality. But the person on the thread was complaining that it "just happened" to be written at the same time as the PGA Championship...in Oklahoma.

 

To be fair, you could be writing about Tiger Woods not having a personality any time.

 

That biased Jenni Carlson, always writing about what is going on in the state at the time.

 

He did seem to be fishing a bit in his explanation Sunday...reading the story after the game?

Maybe he didn't need to read it at all, because he already knew what it was about since he was the main source?

To me, that makes the whole rant even more pathetic, since it was done totally to cover his ass, a totally selfish act.

 

Fans are conditioned to say, "You're just trying to sell papers." Coaches like Gundy condition them.

Agents are great at this too. If a player is not portrayed heroically, his agent -- guaranteed -- tells him, "They're just trying to sell papers." How do we know? Because the player says to us, "Look, I know you're just doing your job and trying to sell papers ... "

 

The writing is good, and I like their Monday sports tab. I just think the paper needs a cosmetic re-do to make it look more visually appealing.

 

Gundy - and Oklahoma State - are college power wannabes and neverwills. I heard T. (which stands for Turning all regular people into poor people over my oil) Boone Pickens took out big-time life insurance policies on some other donors, probably to keep the affect of his future demise from leaving the program without a sugar daddy. Where's Garth Brooks' cash? Seriously, the program is laughable.
