Oklahoma State coach Gundy blasts Oklahoman columnist

Gundy lost all credibility vs. Carlson with his answers to hers and other questions regarding the inaccuracies he ripped her for Saturday. Either put up, coach, at least in private with her, or shut the hell up.

The man deserves no respect. If he wants to protect players, coach in high school. That's a level where media generally treads lightly because the athletes, literally speaking, are still children (below 18).

  2. I love this, from the OSU media guide:

"During the season, OSU players are available Mondays at the Mike Gundy media luncheon and Monday post-practice. A limited number of telephone interviews may be arranged Tuesdays for out-of-state media by contacting the media relations office. All interview requests should be made at least 24 hours in advance."

OK, so a piddly-shit program like OKLAHOMA STATE makes players available once all week.

Ya know, it seems to me that if your program were second banana to a perennial powerhouse, you would want as much media coverage as you could get.

Is that kid angling for a job with the SID staff or something?

That's about all he's gonna be able to get, if too many members here get around to reading it.

Tramel appeared to be doing damage control, especially since Gundy said he's done with the Oklahoman (which I don't buy). It was weak, but Tramel's in a real sensitive spot.

I could be wrong, but that seems about the norm for Big 12 schools. I went to one and covered the football team and that seemed like the procedure for most teams. Some were worse. For the most part there was a "media day" with the coach's presser, then the players would talk after that. If some players had a class at that time, the SID would make other arrangements. I had a coworker who called Colorado midweek and with out giving them notice and get almost everyone he need later that day including Mason Crosby. I was shocked that he could get an interview that late in the week and with that little notice.

If we had a nickel for every time a coach said he/she will never talk to (insert newspaper here)....

I find the idea of a college football coach accusing ANYONE of being less-than-honest is a bit ironic. I don't know if there's a bigger group of liars on this planet than college coaches. That said, I thought the chicken comments were unnecessary and were a little overboard, but it was a column and not an article, rather or not Gundy realizes it. Also, Gundy could have taken this opportunity to teach a 21-year-old MAN how to let things roll off his back and not get so worked up over something he didn't like. Look at all the ridiculous attention that was paid to Tebow and Joiner's "kiss" at the Florida and Tennessee game. Division I athletes get attention and I'm sure if OSU was worth paying attention to, Gundy might not have freaked out like that.

That's bogus. She knew he wouldn't answer it ... that's why she asked in that forum. If he answers and says that X, Y and Z are untrue ... that then tells the world that A, B and C are indeed true.

It would be like writing a story about a politician and making 20 allegations, and then asking him to point out the wrong ones, which would then indirectly confirm the correct ones.

Gundy acted like a jerk, but the column was just as unprofessional as he was.

Agreed. If Gundy answered any of the things that were untrue, he could be setting up for another article/column that he may not want people to know or is none of their business.
Carlson is a good writer when she does articles, but I don't think she is a very talented columnist.

We all know Gundy wouldn't have said it if it was a male columnist.

And the fact that he's reacting this way publicly underscores what Carlson said in the column: that he has to be coddled and babied.

If Reid is that sensitive, what the hell is he doing playing BCS football? This isn't like playing tennis at a D-III school for heaven's sake.

Is it me or does Mike Sherman look like he wants to slug someone in that video?
