For what it's worth, I think we all need to consider how biased we are in this case. Yes, it's safe to say Gundy over reacted in a big way, but to make him out to be some evil asshat (I believe that was one description of him earlier, or maybe it was the use for the guys clapping, in which case, asshats is perfect) might be a bit much.

Chilidog made some good points (and some not so good ones) and gets torn a new one, and yet we rip on all those "fanboys" for insulting on one of our own. I hate to say it, because I think Gundy made a fool of himself, but it's not just the football-obsessed "fanboys" that are siding with the coach on this one.

I showed the article and the youtube clip to a friend of mine, a guy who is isn't too into college football, and has a decent opinion of journalits (at least I hope so since he's one of my best friend) and the first thing he said when he saw the video was "I'd love to play for that guy." This is someone who couldn't care less about OSU or the Big 12, is educated (law degree on top of a double major in undergrad), and he has a close friend and a girlfriend in journalism, and he's siding with the coach on this.

There are plenty of times we need to fight for our own and for our profession, but I'm not so sure this is a case where we need to vilify everyone who sides with Gundy. Like I said before, I think he went way off the deep end on this, but to call everyone who supports him a "loser fanboy" is probably overkill.

Personally, I have a hard time saying either person is in the right in this situation, and because I'm biased like the rest of us, my initial reaction is to vilify the coach. But I think it's a little more gray than most of us are admitting on this thread.

To an extent. A columnist writes a column with that premise, the quality and accuracy level mean little to a coach who just wants to scream about it. I didn't think the column was bad (though the chicken thing is making a major mountain out of a molehill). I doubt anyone is shocked when a coach reacts that way to something that casts his team in a less than positive light.

But he did overreact. He made a scene when he could have handled it through channels.

You seem like you're one of the few intelligent posters in here at this time of night (the genius Tom Petty notwithstanding of course), honestly, I dont know if you read my initial post or not. But I'm curious, other than the "female sports writer" aside I had, what were some of the not-so-good points I made? Just curious. Because it seems like you might be the only reasonable, rational poster I can have an intelligent debate with right now.

Well, I learned that the second day at my college paper. If you can say what you mean in less than five sentences, just say it.

Take for instance your last post. Instead of 75 words of wasted writing, you could have just typed: "Go fuck yourself."
