Dude, you wouldn't have been attacked nearly as viciously if you'd left her gender out of it.

And I'm sure the beat writer knew she was writing that column and most of what was in it. I've yet to see a beat guy and a columnist not discuss a column before it gets written.

Thanks for bringing that back. I forgot exactly what I wrote to start all of this. And I'm not changing my argument at all. I shouldnt have included the line about being female, but I certainly dont feel she had the authority to question a kid's heart and toughness. I dont think any sportswriter does, and I said so in that initial post. And like I said, she knew it was going to cause a stir and she knew it was going to piss people off --- she had to. She just didn't know it would turn into a you-tubed tirade.

Well since youve yet to see a beat writer and columnist not discuss something before it gets written, that means that a) You haven't been in the business that long (which I doubt from the number of your posts on here), b) never worked a college beat like some of us have or c) have worked at every single major metro paper in this country.
    If it's C, then I apologize.

Can you translate that last argument into English, por favor? Mucho gracias.

Had a college beat and currently work at a paper with fairly major D-I football team. I didn't say columnists and beat writers always confer, I said I had yet to see them not. There's a difference. One which you seem unable to comprehend.

I bent my wookie (sorry, that's all i've got left in me at this hour, and this thread could use some levity, if not some beer)

Gundy is pissed about the column, but he'll get over it. I don't think the beat writer will have a problem. Gundy disliked the column, not regular coverage and he knew who he was calling out.

    As I posted earlier:
I do feel bad for all the reporters after that game. Gundy said noting about a quality win for his team and doing player interviews after that had to be awkward and tough. Not to mention Tech isn't the best with access. If I recall correctly Leach can be as bad as Knight with letting / not letting players talk after games. The only Tech football game I covered was a night game and didn't have time to get Tech quotes.

Ralph - you are always good for a laugh.

You said "Im sure the beat writer knew she was writing that column and most of what was in it." Why? Because of your vast college beat experience at papers around the globe? I'm quite sure he didn't know half of what was going to be in that column. And if he did, I imagine he begged and pleaded with his SE not to run it. Or maybe not. Maybe he was gung-ho about it from the beginning. After all, who needs cooperation from a football program when you're a beat writer? Who needs sources? I'm sure he was behind it 100 percent.

Well, my thoughts on this topic have been exhausted for the rest of my natural born life. Have a good life guys and girls. And may God bless every single sportswriter on here.

Chili, I was going to ask to hear some of your credentials since you asked for SC's and that would only be fair. But I guess you just bid farewell.

Jeremy, he blogs from mommy's basement.

Least he never said otherwise when I accused him of it.

For a former or current college beat writer, you sure have a small-town mentality.
