Has the OSU athletic director commented yet? Did I miss it?

I knew it would, and The Oklahoma will continue to do so. The more they milk it, the more people will go onto that shitty website and see what Carlson or Gundy said next. The Oklahoman is making the news, not reporting it. They love this attention, so someone will actually read that below average rag.

So you see how use being subjective when looking at off the field behavior is not correct. Especially with students.

What does JJ Redick have to do with this discussion?

Just read the colmn. It's pretty good. Reid is 21. If he can't take a little heat from the media for perceived softness, then he can go have mama feed him some chicken full-time. I haven't seen the full tirade by the coach, just snippets while on the treadmill, but it seems like he went off. I'm not against coaches ripping us scribes new arseholes when it's warranted.

Not sure this column warranted such an outburst.

I'll tell you what, the Oklahoman Web guys can not be in a good mood this week. I've had trouble getting on that site three of the past five times I've tried to go to it. It just isn't loading very well (and I've tried on two different computers).

  8. Yes. He issued a statement in support of Gundy.

    chilidog,
If you're going to restrict yourself to writing about what you have personally experienced, your beat is going to be really narrow.

Substitute "Ricky Bustle" for "Joe Paterno" and "Louisiana-Lafayette" for "Penn State" and your hypothetical is a steaming pile of shit.

Do some ex-college players get a leg up because they played football for dear ol' State U? Sure.

Do some ex-college newspaper editors get the same? Sure.

Do some ex-college band members get the same? Sure.

Happens in every line of work. Singling out college athletes smacks of petty jealousy.

As bad as the first column was, the follow-up in today's paper by the same columnist is even worse as she fails to do anything to expand on the idea that she actually has credible sources, be it within the program or close to the program, who verified her main and original point.

And Dennis Dodds take is even sillier -- Gundy doesn't owe anybody any access and the fact that 3/4ths of Dodd's column is about Gundy's poor media policies takes away any credibility he might have been able to lend to the original columnist.

Nobody gives a shit about how much access a team gives or whether the football writer's like a guy or not.

I'll add this, courtesy of AP, to Songbird's post:

"Bobby went through a difficult time because for the first time in his life, he wasn't the guy," Gundy said. "We've had some discussions with him about it. It's no different with Bobby or any other player on any position: If you were a starter and now you're not a starter, you never know when you're going to be back in the game."

That was from Gundy's own mouth. "...he wasn't the guy." Reid wasn't ready to accept the fact that he wasn't going to be the guy running the team, and if he had a hard time accepting, then that's a problem on him.

This kid is 21. He can vote, he can drink, he can drive, hell, he can enlist and get shipped to Iraq. There is truth to the fact that this kid, err, young man, doesn't know how to deal with being demoted or benched in favor of the 2nd stringer. He better grow up fast and learn to live with it and out-practice Robinson if he wants his gig back.

Go read Pat Forde's weekly column on ESPN.com. Forde was solid and got in a few shots at Gundy.
