Oklahoma State coach Gundy blasts Oklahoman columnist

Since all these backwater coaches continually have a roving eye on higher-profile, higher paying jobs, good luck with that, Gundy. You came off looking like a wild-eye'd raving lunatic. No high profile AD is going to come within 100 yards of you when their head coach opening comes up.

Hope the rant was worth it.

Oh, please. Nothing remotely libelous about the column. And a quarterback at a Big 12 school is most assuredly a public figure.

A columnist has every right to write that, especially when she observed the incident. And I'm sorry, but I believe that a 21-year old who would let his mother feed him in public speaks volumes about what kind of leader he can and cannot be.
And I think Whitlock, in a rarity, was wrong.

I'd lay a month's paycheck on that being the case. I'd also wager an assistant coach or two, and perhaps Gundy himself, are the unnamed sources.

    Well, then that's just stupid.

But I bet you Oklahoma U fans had no problem about that kid's personal life being thrown into the papers.

The OSU readers/fanboys didn't want THEIR idol tarnished in the rag. If it had been a column about how a Texas Tech kid is a pussy, though, they would've been jumping up and down with glee. "See, look at the pussies Mike Leach recruits!"

Wanna have their cake and eat it, too.

And I do get that there's a double standard.

If it's true that Gundy made the drive into OKC to speak with these folks about the situation, I think it eliminates the Gundy theory -- unless they all were sitting in the offices laughing at what rubes we are talking about this.

I will say this, The Oklahoman's minor-league act on this one is not winning me over. It happened four days ago, you know, stop dragging attention to yourself.

I notice Carlson's now claiming she had legitimate sources, but she didn't cite any in the hit piece nor does she now. She didn't even make the claim that she had credible unnamed sources in the column. Instead, she credited her claims to "rumors and rumblings", "back stories told on the sly", and used a lot of weaselly wiggle-room words like "apparently" when citing her alleged facts.

That phrasing gave the distinct impression that she was parrotting gossip she'd picked up from anonymous users on message boards or elsewhere. If she indeed did have more solid sources you've got to wonder why she chose to use that wording.

I might be missing something, but what does having your mother feed you have to do with being able to lead?

Because she may have been trying to cute up her column. And it didn't work.

ill only say this ... and i haven't gone through the 25 pages of ramblings on the subject. ... i thought she took a cheap shot with the chicken-feeding thing. if he's awful on the field, fine, use it in your column, but to form an opinion from a distance about something you saw outside the team bus, obviously trying to paint a picture for readers that could be seen differently than it actually was, was bush league.

  12. I'm not certain, but I seriously doubt Gundy went to OKC. I know the Oklahoman's sports editor was in Stillwater on Monday, and they left the press conference talking, but I haven't heard it reported anywhere (except this site) that Gundy drove to them.
