Oklahoma State coach Gundy blasts Oklahoman columnist

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by Precious Roy, Sep 22, 2007.

  1. I won't argue there. Just remember, some of what I'm doing is just yanking your chain dude. It's nothing personal. It's a message board. Have a little fun with it. :)

Don't you think it shows some level of inability to, I don't know, NOT ACT LIKE YOU'RE 5 YEARS OLD!!!
Jeez, what am I missing here. If you need your mother to hover and feed you, how the hell will you have the guts and maturity to lead a D1 football team?

I'm guessing for effect. But regardless, the bottom line is can the kid get the job done?
I've seen guys cry like babies in D1. Does that mean they're not leaders?

I also think the West Virginia supreme court may have also, only recently, outlawed marrying your half-sister.

But it still allows snake-handling and the drinking of poison in backwoods churches.

Moonshine? Wondered why the liquid in the little communion glasses was clear.

It might not be my strongest point, but if I read, for instance, a column that stirs me the wrong way, I'll criticize it. Not everything in life is beautiful.

What this columnist did was stir emotion. I enjoyed the fact she wrote about this 21-year-old crybaby who gets fed chicken by his mama. Says much about how weak in the knees he is.

There's plenty I could criticize about many a-thing, at SportsJournalists.com for instance, but it doesn't do much good in the long run.

When my critical tongue cuts, it cuts deep and is too hurtful, which is why I've cut down, so to speak, on doing so.

  8. They play pretty good football there, though. Wonder if it's the moonshine?

Just saw 1st and 10 on ESPN. Pat Forde and Skip Bayless were talking about the column and reaction by Gundy. Bayless, who is from Oklahoma City, said he knows Jenni Carlson and that it was the best and most accurate thing she has ever written. I seriously doubt that. If that were so I don't think she would have a job. I have read some of her stuff and she does way better work than that.

That has to be the most venomous smiley-face in the history of SportsJournalists.com, Bileberry.

Xan, you know I think you are an effin stud, so hope my comments didn't offend. Not trying to paint you as a pollyanna.

No offense taken at all, w_i.

Just know that I've been known as a mother-effin' arsehole in the past for things I've said of a critical nature, and that's a big part of me I've tried to correct the last 5-6 years.

As for your pollyanna comment, I saw The Opera episode of Seinfeld last night -- my fave Seinfeldian episode.

Anyhoooooooo, no offense taken. But I will read more columns on this part of SJ and try to offer critical lashings when warranted.

    It's all goooooooooooooooooooood :D
