Oklahoma State coach Gundy blasts Oklahoman columnist

Hondo, you're making a mammoth leaping assumption there. He does not "need" his mother to feed him, I'm sure he manages to find food quite well on his own the overwhelming majority of days when his mom doesn't happen to be visiting.

And, I'd also point out that Carlson's not exactly clear what she means by the alleged mother feeding him observation--literally putting food in his mouth or merely offering him some food? My guess is its the latter but Carlson wanted readers to draw the false inference that its the former.

Regardless, I fail to see how a college kid accepting food from his mother in whatever form proves that he does not have the "guts and maturity to lead a D1 football team." Particularly when you don't know the surrounding circumstances. Hell, since when do college kids turn down a free meal from anyone, much less their mom? I know they didn't when I was in school.

That column was a disgrace to journalism. Gundy had one thing right. It's garbage.

IU, if it's the latter, why would she even include it in her column?

A reporter is not stupid enough to try to pass that off as something else. Sadly, her enemy was the poor explanation and her attempt at beating the bush with her writing.

Still doesn't mean he should be an asshat.

We went through this last night.

    No garbage column.

    No asshat reaction.

One was a direct response to the other.

Let me get this straight: Bush is ripped in an asshat column by Helen Thomas or some other White House beat flunky. Therefore, he can throw a temper-tantrum on stage?

Gundy showed he was a little man. He stooped way below Carlson's level.

  7. What? Me? Surely you jest! :) I wouldn't do that would I? ;) I'm as pure as Snow White, friend :)

Why is the public behind Gundy about 90-10 on pretty much every message board, web site, in the country?

That I can't answer for you. Maybe HeinekenMan will have a moment of glee since, in his mind, my lack of response will support his pussification program.

If this incident is any indication, I have no doubt that Gundy would chew out a 2-year-old for not understanding the difference between a man-to-man defense and a two-deep zone if he thought it would make him look good. What a jerk. I don't care for some of the stuff she put in the column either, but that doesn't give him the right to pull the whole "Me big man, look at me" crap, especially when he should have been talking about how his team finally managed to come together after taking a beating in the Deep South. I guess he thinks he's still the BMOC. Sorry, you're just the coach of crappy football team.

Makes the memories of the beatdown I witnessed in Athens a month ago even sweeter.

Since you can't answer that... I'll try answering it for you.

Here's a hint. If the public is behind Gundy 90-10, or 85-15, or whatever hugely lopsided margin they're favoring him by... AND if the SportsJournalists.com board is behind Carlson 90-10, or 85-15, or whatever hugely lopsided margin she's favored by...

Is it possible that many in our profession are completely out of touch with the public, i.e. OUR READERS?

Is that even possible? Doesn't seem that many people on this board are willing to look inward to criticize a column that deserves to be criticized. Why? Because we're afraid one of us might be Jenni Carlson some day.

If I ever write a shit column like that one, I DO hope a coach rips me a new one, because I'd deserve it.
