Interesting that you bring up this facet after 27 pages of discussion, of which you've witnessed the last 10.

Having seen the Gundy apology, i think he really redeemed himself. he knows he screwed up and it should now be forgotten. carlson, on the other hand, is sticking to her guns. i really think she needs to look at herself and how she wants to be viewed as a professional journalist. maybe she doesnt care that there will be a bad light shined on her from this point forward. she certainly has the ability to reverse the situation, but do i think she will? no. would it be too much for a columnist to say 'hey, maybe i shouldnt have written that?' would that be so bad? i find that most people in this business have too much pride to do such a thing. ive been in this business for 10 years now, and im finding that it's more and more about the writers than it is about the athletes.

Anybody who thinks Gundy's immature rant was justified is, well, immature.

Butbutbutbut Jenni Carlson wrote a meanie column!

FWIW, I agree with Gator, she's not covering herself in glory here.

Not so interesting... really. Just a fact. Magic Johnson's mother would bring entire buffet dinners to the Lakers locker room when the Lakers would play Detroit.

Maybe not but she doesn't have anything to apologize for, Wicked.

I agree with you, but the entire state of Oklahoma thinks she's a criminal. Sometimes perception becomes reality.

Maybe, as a professional journalist, she doesn't want her credibility questioned. By not answering what exactly she got wrong in the column, Gundy is insinuating it was made up. Any professional journalist would dispute that as loud as possible.
But in general you are right, these days, in some places, it is more about the writers than the athletes.

i think the apology has to come from within. it's how you want to be viewed. people are always going to make up thier own mind, but she needs to realize that what she did was shitty. i know that ive written some stuff that has gone over the line. sure i was filled with piss and vinegar at the time, and then when i went back to look at it, i was like, 'man, i was out of line.' this is the road she needs to take. if not, the more power to her, but she should expect the backlash that comes with it.

She doesn't have to apologize for anything to anybody including herself. She didn't do anything "shitty".

And if columnists started apologizing because some mouth-breathing jock sniffers don't like what they wrote, they should probably find another line of work.

That said, no one outside of Oklahoma would have ever heard of Ms. Carlson if the dickhead coach hadn't acted like a five year old.

I'm afraid, after reading the column again, and her follow-up, Jenni Carlson is looking worse than many of us would like to believe.

This is not to say that Gundy acted in any way befitting a leader of young people (sorry, JerrySix, that's a fact). But her sourcing was just too, too sketchy, and the follow-up was not good. It was defiant, which is not a good look for her this week.

"His mother was feeding him chicken."

"If you believe the rumors and rumblings..."

"Tile up back stories told on the sly..."

    "Word is..."

    "apparently,"

"Other times, though, Reid has been nicked in games and sat it out instead of gutting it out."

"Even though Mike Gundy said last week that Robinson got the nod because he had the better week of practice, insiders say ..."

"but you can almost see Reid shrugging his shoulders as he says those words."

"If you listen to the rumblings and the rumors,...

No. She didn't do anything shitty. Right. She did a lot shitty.
