Oklahoma State coach Gundy blasts Oklahoman columnist

You're wrong, Jerrysix. It's Carlson right as a columnist NOT to believe Gundy and to challenge him. She printed Gundy's quote on the decision AND what her other sources said to imply, perhaps, that Gundy wasn't being forthright on the decision. There's absolutely nothing wrong with her pointing out what she heard - both from the coaches and from others - in her COLUMN.

Considering college football coaches lie constantly, Carlson deciding to dig deeper is probably a good idea. But as I've said several times, I don't think it was a good column.

We shouldn't be writing about speculations, we should be writing about the facts. That's what is wrong with the column in the first place, too much speculation and not enough facts.

Who decides what is speculation and what is fact?

Just because it wasn't announced at a press conference doesn't mean it's not a fact.

In fact, no pun intended, I'd buy stuff I got from an assistant coach much more than crap I got from Gundy at a presser.

So was it wrong of the media to speculate in stories about Nick Saban even after he went on the record to say he absolutely had no interest in the Bama job? Turns out the media was dead right on that one, and more times than not IS dead right on such instances. There's countless other incidents of coaches flat-out lying or evading questions with false quotes or giving coach-speak in quotes - so much so that it is our right and duty to sift through it all.

But it means diddly, remember, because we're the ones who are disconnected, not the readers, right?

No it isn't! You should believe that Coach Gundy, he's such a nice man! And he's a father of children!

I didn't say it wasn't fact just because it wasn't in a press conference. I didn't know that all we write about are from press conferences. Thanks for clueing me in, genius. I thought we just went to press conferences to get all our info.

When she says its rumors, rumblings and back sly stories, can you trust that she did the best job she could to get the facts?

You said it was all speculation, not facts.

We are reporters, not just writers. That's why we go to multiple people to find the story, not just what the coach says. Do you just go to one source on every story?

Actually, I wrote that it was too much speculation and not enough facts. I didn't say it was all speculation.

So, now, Gundy is lying. And the mom is lying. And the readers are idiots for not realizing that the esteemed Jenni Carlson -- Ms. Tiled Up On The Sly -- is the sole holder of the truth.

I don't really want to step on toes or anything, but this rings of someone who doesn't do investigative reporting. You have to cull information from a lot more than sources talking to you face-to-face. If you didn't, you'd never uncover anything.
