It isn't different _ I just brought it up because I looked at the posts on her blog.

It's one thing to be a passionate fan. It's another thing when that passion turns into insults or threats.

I thought the column was not very good as well. But that doesn't give the coach the right to mouth off like that. Coaches always say they don't read the paper and then when something negative is written, they take it personal.
Gundy was way off base in confronting the columnist like that. He should be fined by the school or the Big 12.

In this day and age, if you're not covering a major college beat like a pro beat, you're doing it wrong.

There's a difference between labelling Westbrook "injury prone" and questioning his manhood in print.

Someone wrote a column on Troy Glaus a couple years ago when he was with the Angels - maybe it was Plaschke? - that levied some of the same charges, yet in a much more professional way.

Yeah, just ask Shavlik Randolph how well that goes over.

Boy, they are getting nasty towards Carlson on the blogs. Having lived in Oklahoma a couple of years ago I know that it's not too sensitive as far as race, religion and feminist issues go. She gets a lot of grief for being a female sports reporter in Oklahoma. A lot of people poke fun at her looks. She may not be attractive, but I don't know too many reporters who look like models. If looking attractive was a prerequisite for being a reporter most of us would be out of a job.

Except for me because I do look like a model. ;D

Holy mother of dogs. Gundy needs to learn the freaking difference in a column and an article.

That distinction is lost on many. Maybe newspapers should come with instructions. Of course, the people who would need most to read the instructions wouldn't read them.

As far as Gundy goes, that's one of the most astounding displays of pussiness presenting itself as ballsiness that I've seen in a while. He's an immense, orange vulva. Of course the message-board cretins are in full support of his shenanigans. Ersatz-populist umbrage is indeed the new political correctness.

Gundy's tirade was just another example of growing-older jocks who rant and rave in a threatening way when things don't go their way. Dumb jock syndrome. I read Carlson's column and found it fairly insightful. Gundy never says which "facts" she got wrong.

Worth noting that FSN's Big 12 wrapup didn't address the post-game presser/Gundy meltdown.
FSN broadcast the game, and they grabbed Gundy on the field for a quickie interview.
I don't know if that is standard procedure for them or if they knew in advance that Gundy was going to go nuclear.
And Gundy may not claim to read the paper, but T. Boone does and I bet a dollar he said something to the coach.

Internet message boards are unbelievable. I never realized how much anonymity emboldens people to say things they would never say to someone's face or even write in an email.
The fanboys on my beat's major message board were celebrating it, too. One post said, "That dumb bitch should be burned at the stake."
    Disgusting.

    Is it possible:
    1) That this was a calculated attempt by Gundy to gain favor with the mothers of recruits, that he would come off looking like someone who will go to great lengths to protect and take care of his "kids?"

    2) That this will help him with recruits and their mothers, especially children of single mothers?

    3) Gundy is trying to win over his players? Having benched Reid he may have alienated some of the players but he feels he can win them back by sticking up for them in such a passionate public display?

    Not justifying. Just wondering.
