Nice to see the US win. Too much sports tension over my morning coffee!

Was surprised that neither Zach Parise nor Alexander Ovechkin was used in the shootout.

Prefer the NHL rule where you have to use different shooters and not the same player repeatedly.

Well, that was an enjoyable morning of sports entertainment. Funny how international rules worked to the benefit of the US in this one on the disallowed goal and Oishe being allowed to take every shot in the shootout.

Certainly possible. This format makes the brackets for the elimination round a real crapshoot because with only three games per team, goal differential often gets involved in determining seedings.

I can't believe they kept going with Oshie. Don't they know he's undersized?

Our own keeper knocked it off.

This was a garbage win. Sochi Screw Job

I'm not a hockey expert but that was a bullshit disallow. How can you control the puck for that long with no chance to score?

We need to up the defcon because Putin has to be beside himself.

Very astute observation by Michael Farber in his SI preview of the tournament. To paraphrase: "Oshie was selected, in part, for his shootout skills."

"Oshie Can You See!" Steve Goldstein's call at the end for Westwood One Radio.

Cool. I haven't seen St. Louis play that often, so didn't know he was a shootout stud. I did know Parise was pretty good, so was surprised he didn't get picked. I figured the longer the shootout went, the advantages went to the goalies because they got a read on the shooter, sort of like a hitter gets a feel for a pitcher.

Agreed. Sorry if I was out of line.
