    Funny how people so often overreact. Apparently, Russia is in panic mode. Because they lose a preliminary round game against another good team? In a shootout?

    Funny, Canada lost to the US in the preliminary round in 2010 and didn't earn a bye into the quarterfinals. Russia looked like the team to beat heading into the Russia-Canada quarterfinal game. But Canada won 7-4, beat the US in overtime in the final and won gold. I still believe any of six teams can win this tournament, Russia and the US both included.

    Good question. One of the NBC guys had a good point the other day. Team Slovakia is minus not only Gaborik but the late Pavel Demitra.

    Parise is very good in those situations. Interestingly enough, though, Ovechkin is not all that great in shootouts. I have no idea why.

    From my days in the hockey bidness I always believed the pressure is all on the shooter. Watch how many of them come in with no idea what they will do and next thing you know they are out of real estate.

    One guy I know hung on the NHL for the last few years due to his proficiency in the shootout. I knew other guys in junior who may have had all the talent, confidence and offensive proficiency in the world who wanted no part of it.

    And assuming tomorrow's games go to form, the Finns, Canadians & Russians will all be on the opposite side of the bracket from the US in the elimination round.

    There is no leeway in international hockey, that's a goal in the NHL. The refs made the correct call over there.

    Quick knew what he was doing though, smart play if you can get away with it.
