TMZ strikes again, on an athlete's finances:

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505245_162-57487172/gymnast-gabby-douglas-mom-filed-for-bankruptcy/

Presumably, Gabby Douglas will be able to pay her mom's bills with the small change under her couch once she starts making millions off endorsements. But what the hell is going on with TMZ? Douglas' mother's bankruptcy, Ryan Lochte's parents foreclosure and David Duval's foreclosure (which they got dead wrong ... Doug Ferguson actually interviewed Duval and got the correct information). Is August such a slow news month, with with Kristen Stewart's shenanigans, that they're on this kick to uncover the financial problems of athletes and their families?

I agree. They should have better things to do with their time than to go through all of the athletes and find these kinds of stories to talk about. I'd imagine a lot more people than Olympic athletes have these same kinds of issues but you don't see TMZ writing about them.

As I fast forward thru the NBC prime time coverage, I am amazed when they get to the medal count. I've seen on NBC China win about four medals, yet they are leading the US in golds, and overall.

    What gives?

All of their medals are coming in sports that are on the other networks, I'd assume. They're good at a lot of different things.

Water polo giggity. Apparently, NBC aired (ever so briefly) a US player exposing a Spanish player's boob underwater.

    Oh, you naughty, naughty peacock.

U.S. judoka expelled from Olympics after testing positive for pot. Claims he ate pot brownies.

I was watching water polo the other day and thought "this would be a good chance for someone to lose a suit" and it seems I was right, although I didn't see this happen.

As someone mentioned before, sprinters (male and female) and their jewelery: that would drive me nuts. I can't believe they leave all that stuff on.

The NBC execs will readily tell you it's not the same approach as broadcasting football or hockey. It's story-telling for general audiences, particularly women. That's their model and that's why they spend the money they do.

This France-Japan women's semifinal is a bore. Also I am scared of Kate Markgraf. Horrifying plastic surgery.

That 100 was everything that it was built up to be. Somehow I avoided knowing the result until 11:15 pm and was glad I did. Enjoyed the preening each sprinter did before getting in the starting blocks.
Bolt's ability to dominate in the middle of the race is breathtaking. Love that he appears to be a fun guy as well.

Japan defense in shambles. France sub comes on scores and then draws a penalty. Penalty to draw even was missed wide, but France still is parked in the Japan end.
