Every time I see a reference to Torsten Frings I think back to my childhood in the 70s, when "Frings" were on the Jack in the Box menu. French fries and onion rings together. A crashing failure.

    Here's a clip of it:

From watching years of international hoops, I can say this is hardly new for Argentina. There's much to respect about how hard the Argentines play--they compete like hell--but they've also long done more of this cheap crap than anyone else. Seems like there's been some little dust up or skirmish in nearly every one of their games this year, including their pre-olympic exhibition warm ups against Spain and the U.S.

Watched Fox Soccer Report tonight. Excellent analysis, not cheerleading. And I disagree with your disagreement. ;D They showed Rapinoe's non-handball on replay; her left arm is clearly against her body, at least in my view.

On the indirect the ball strikes the first defender on the arm, then deflects and the second player clearly raises her elbow and arm away from her body and deflects the ball. I think it's the second touch that was called.

FSR also reported the goalie confirmed she had been warned about stalling at the outset of the second half. They timed her holding onto the ball for 16 seconds in one instance, before she was penalized, and timed her at 13 seconds in the instance she was penalized for.

Maybe it should not have been called. But don't push the envelope so far that it has to be called, especially after you've been warned.

And I think Canada's No. 14 just committed another foul, her eighth or ninth in one game.

All they had to do is give the Canadian keeper a yellow card which is done in 99.9% of these situations. The free kick is just a terrible, terrible call. I had no problem with the pK but that call is just another example of an official making themselves bigger than the game.

That I would agree with. Too often they fail to give quick yellows; if they did on such plays, the shenanigans would stop immediately.

Toronto FC is full of nasty fucksticks. This is nothing new.

Watching the replay of overtime it was pretty clear that Canada ran out of gas with about five minutes to go.

Hopefully for the Swedish handball team, the term "fastest man on Earth" applies only to the track.

Was a general warning at the start of the second half to both keepers, still a shitty call.

Good thing Sweden's handball team didn't qualify for tomorrow's quarterfinals.
