If I'm Japan in the final, I'm telling the ref to count to 6 every time Solo catches the ball.

It was a horrible call and U.S. fans (and NBC) would be screaming bloody murder if it had gone the other way.

Do you think call ranks up there with the refs calling Russian shot good after time ran out in the '72 Olympics to beat the USA?

    Choke Republic?

France comes from 11 down in the fourth quarter to beat the Chokes 71-68 in the women's basketball quarterfinal, will face Russia in the semifinals. Other semi is Australia vs. United States. Both games Thursday.

Well, it looks like Canada's gripes about the officiating and being screwed are losing steam. There are photos and video that indicate that Canadian Melissa Tancredi deliberately stomped on Carli Lloyd's head or neck.

Hard to tell from a pic, but this gif makes it pretty clear to me that Tancredi did that on purpose. It should be noted that the US was on defense at this time, so no PK obviously, but a straight red would have been in order.

I don't know shit about boxing scoring, I suppose, but how did Spence get outscored 7-4 in the third. I think he lost the fight (Teddy Atlas didn't), but I sure as shit didn't think he got stomped like that in the final round.

    Boxing scoring mystifies everyone.

Part of the joy of Olympic boxing is that after the infamous '88 and '92 Games, you used to be able to see the scored blows as they happened and the winner would be known immediately. This must have been too transparent.

Kind of makes a person wonder what is it about Team USA that makes opponents want to do things like this, between Wambach getting sucker punched and this it seems you reap what you sow.

That being said there were plays on both sides that you can slow down and question as dirty, Wambach's spiking the ankle on a tackle after the ball was gone and the Canadian defender was exposed comes to mind.

I watched the fight on-line without the announcers and thought the same thing about round three.

Before the fight when the announced the judges and that one of them was from China I figured he was screwed before it started. No way that guy was going to score him fairly.

Which has nothing to do with whether or not the delay of game should have been called. Wambach could have been given a straight red in extra time for her studs up follow through on the the Canadian defender.

Because Canada and Colombia know they can't beat the USA, so they resort to those tactics?
