Given the contact and the fact the height advantage is negated with the goal on the floor, I'd think football players -- running backs, LBs, defensive backs -- would be a better fit for handball than basketball players.

 

And my girl Ineta just misses the bronze.

Team handball is the curling of the summer Olympics.

 

I thought Jamaica swept the 100 meters men and women? And I could have sworn Ethiopia had at least women's distance golds?

 

Requires just a hair more athleticism.

Jamaica swept the men's and women's 100 -- and those are its only golds so far. Ethiopia won the women's 10,000 and marathon and that's all so far.

I wasn't saying those were the only golds in T&F. But the next two after the U.S. are both from Europe, which also has several other golds.

 

It really is. I've been watching as much of it as I can. I tried to give that same chance to water polo and field hockey, but in water polo I just keep waiting for another nip-slip and in field hockey I just keep thinking how much better the sport would be played on ice and with more checking.

I'm talking in terms of popularity.

Past two winter Olympics, NBC has shown a ton of curling. It gets a lot of attention and discussion. Then nobody watches it - aside from Canuckistanis - for four more years. Same thing with team handball.

 

Good battle shaping up in the decathlon (track and field) between Ashton Eaton and Trey Hardee.
